Also we could get some outstanding nuclear research in the event of a limited nuclear exchange in the third world. Without expending any of our vastly more expensive( and superior) missiles! Its almost a freebie!

Sure they're weapons of mass destruction, but people have really hyped them up to be more than they are. If a nuclear weapon was detonated, it would be a tragedy, no doubt, but it wouldn't be the end of the world, and it wouldn't be nearly as bad as you all might think.

Neither side will "lead off" with a nuclear strike, in any event. The one who launches first will immediately become the "bad guy" to the rest of the world and lose the political/media war; all their allies will abandon them.
Should the two go to all-out war, they will begin with purely conventional forces, or even chemical if they are sneaky can control the story in the media.

No, there won't be any "domino" effect. Even if both countries push "the button", no other sane country will. No one would want to take the risk of following the other lemmings off that particular cliff.

The only thing I haven't been able to figure out is which area will get hotter faster: Israel/Palestine or Pakistan/India?

I think it will be Israel/Palestine. Israel is gonna get tired of going easy on palestine soon.

It depends on the size of the bomb as to how big the blast radius would be. A five mile blas radius would be a large one but as someone else said, the radiation goes much further. Its not the blast thats destructive, its the radiation. To destroy buildings isnt the goal. Kill the people that occupy them, thats the goal. Something else to think about is the alliances that these nations have. Who are the Pakis friends??? Who are the Indians friens with??? It could easily be more than 2 morons wiping eachother out.
