I figure I might as well jump in for advice here - I picked up the M&M 6-9 collection a few years back and never got around to playing it until now. 6 didn't work on my PC, so I started with 7. Paladin, Archer, Cleric and Sorcerer for starters - but for some reason I'm having a lot of trouble while doing my treasure hunt. 3 of my party members are diseased from running into a group of vampire bats going to the Moon Temple, I've been wasted by Dragonflies & Rats, etc. All my guys are still level one, and I'm too poor to afford potions of cure disease. Any cheap advice for a beginner?

Been a long time since I played 7.

Essential start for any Might and Magic game is to get the bow skill for as many characters as possible (as they'll start with the bow), and buy bows and the skill for the ones that don't have it. That makes the flies outside the city far easier to kill.

Generally speaking, everything at that point in the game is easier to kill from a long distance with a bow (or at least weaken up). A few levels in the future and your melee fighters will be strong enough to dish out pain, and your spell casters will have enough mp/spell points to do some serious damage.

you should have your, ummm... *thinks back trying to remember* archer, maybe? learn potion mixing... *runs and opens MM7 to see which class can get it*
be right back
heh i'm having my cleric make the potions, even tho she can't specialize in it.

buy empty bottles from the discount store and collect all those red, yellow and blue herbs lying on the ground.
save your game and take a teammate (in mine it's my cleric, who is limited in what potions she can create), and pop one of the red ones into a bottle. *voila* you now have a health potion. that's a "simple" potion. to make a cure disease, you need to be able to make a "compound" potion (that's mixing 2 simple potions). in the case of cure disease (an orange potion), you mix a red potion with a yellow potion. a cure poison (a purple potion) is something you're gonna need too... mix a red with a blue.

i advise you several things, in no particular order:
1) save before making potions. sometimes you get "spectacular" results when you mess up
2) are you trying to get the dragon? or just doing the local dungeons? anyway, that's none of my business. if you're still on the isle, just concentrate on finding the stuff for the treasure hunt and if you're in a dungeon for awhile, come up for air to decide what things you're gonna keep, what things you're gonna sell and then go spend your money on things that'll keep you alive. like potions and skills and training.
3) use your terrain and "helpers" when you're fighting the dragonflies around the shops. run towards guards if you get overwhelmed.
4) check out the wells around town. drink from them. they help. you can also buy healing from the healer's tent if you've got lotsa dough to spend. i never do, unless i've come back with goodies from the dragon's den and can afford it. oh yeah! rest!! that's a cheap source of getting your health back.

oh yeah. yer gonna love harmondale.

oh yeah, btw, one of the best forums for the M&M games is still around. The Erathian Liberation Party has forums for MM6-9. there are still a bunch of us diehards who play regularly and post there.
they're hosting a great patch (Mok's patch) that may even help you get MM6 up and running. it works for MM7, too.

have fun!!

Thanks! I've been checking the wells, and found 1000 gold, but spent it all on skills for something right away.

Tried to get the dragon right off, and it was ugly. Once I can get through the darn bats I'll rethink big red. I can mix easy potions at least, so I'll try to piece together some disease ones tonight (while keeping my fingers crossed)...

oooh, ooooh!
know the pedestal out near the dragon's lair? it boosts your stats. i always have my party touch it, then run into the cave and pick off the rats at the entrance. then with the stat boost still active, run around the dragon, go in and out of turn-based mode, to pick up stuff i see lying around.
i'm not ashamed to bolt out when we've been scorched either and come back a little later for more goodies. i may be a weird minority, but i don't feel right killing off a dragon.

anyway, have fun and always check the wells. also don't forget, if you ever see something in the world that's capitalized (like Buoy instead of buoy or Tree instead of tree) click it! NWC devs loved stashing all kinds of goodies away for us.

for starters it`s best to have a warrior, archer, cleric and a sorceress, because then can almost at least one of your characters can specialize in the most important skills in the game.. and you get also two characters thats very good with spells and two exceptional fighters with bow , to keep your foes at a distance.....

well i`m at a party now so talk to you later guy`s , and i shall beginn to play M&M9 tomorrow since it have been so long since last time... =)

so I`ll get drunk and so should you too=)cheers m8's!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, it was Ubisoft that bought the M&M franchise. They're working on Heroes V.

And on lowering rep in MM6 without being "evil"--I also kill the thralls in Temple of the Snake. I think of it as a mercy, really.

LOL! Vesselle, you are SPOT ON about Arcomage! There were nights I booted the computer to play MM7 just to play Arcomage! Many hours did I spend...

And Bakrus, my nick comes from my first thief character in a CRPG. Knowing the abilities of most first-level characters, I realized he'd probably bungle just about everything he tried to do. So that became his name... but to make it more interesting (than, say, Morris the Monk, chosen solely for alliteration), I frankified Bungle and turned it into Bungleau... pronounced just like the English word "bungalow".

Marathon, remember that while you're participating in the treasure hunt, you *can* train to higher levels. Pretty much every thing you bring back should raise you a level. Vesselle's already given you the thoughts on mixing potions and looking for Capitalized Objects (I think there's a Rock not too far from the docks, toward the north side on the shore). Healing at the temple will cure everything that ails you, but for a fee. Distance combat is *always* your best choice.

Oh, and if you feel like it, look around for a certain peasant named Mr. Malwyck. He may have an offer you can't refuse...

I think I prefer a druid in my starting party instead of an archer. The ability to mix black potions later on is very, very valuable... far more than anything the archer offers. But that's my opinion only, and the game lets you play however you'd like. Although there is something for having that archer who *starts* with a bow....

*grins* yes. yes, it is. but since i love having a thief/archer, i forego the druid.
i can be SO bad. to get black potions, i camp the shops and aggressively load and reload to get the stat-boosting black potions i want.
uh huh. every last one of my RP-ing instincts are put on hold during black potion searches.
