there are 4 small races in eq2.. a dwarf, gnome, ratoonga (rat race) and a halfling..im actually going to be a halfling for my first eq2 char . oh its going to be fun looking up at big people. in the picture above.. in the group pic that look likes a female gnome among the big guys especially the ogre.. while the pair pic is a troll and a dwarf

and i agree with you luvian that it is trying to be realistic as possible tend to be a turn off.. like i said (countless times already) it depends on you alone

To add my 2 cents here...

Lets say $50 for the average game.

Now, taking battle.net as an example, you get free servers, free tech support, free patching, free playing.

Given that, and that you pay around $50 to buy Blizzard's games, that means that all you are paying for with the subscription is the new content, which you have to go BUY anyway.

Like honestly now, we're paying $15/mo (* say 2 million) for new content? WTF?

MMORPGS are WAY overpriced, that's why I don't play them. Either an amount of free monthly play equal to the price of the game should be included, or the purchase of the game itself should be free. I can see a MORE people playing MMORPGs if they could buy the actual game for free, or practically nothing.

Also, you shouldn't have to pay for a subscription if you don't use it. There should just be a trigger every month that if you log on to the server, you get dinged for the monthly fee. Paying for something that you would never use is also retarded.

Many 56k users will never play MMORPGs simply because of latency issues. If the cost were lowered (ie. free client) I suspect that MMORPG companies would get a lot more subsribers, and easily make up the money lost through the free client.

i hope you read my post earlier about my own views:
- regarding your free battle.net which I pointed out in my earlier post, name me one free server game where you can play and interact with HUNDREDS of people online at the same time. battlenet is just a chat room where you can challenge people at most 32 people at the same time. (note: those web based text thingie not included here. reminds me of D&D pen and paper )

- the new content and the server maintainance plus the developers, moderator and other miscellenious expesnes which cannot be easily seen like web maintainance and constant service with patches is all included in the 15 dollars

- the game you are buying includes a one month free subscription and you are paying for the development of the game which took nearly 4 or more years in the making. the one month subscription is more than enough for any gamer to finish a single player game (unless constant multiplayer games like counterstrike or Warcraft 3 is invovled)

- MMORPG technology have evolved that a 56k user will have a satisfactory time .

my arguments repeated.

And what about expensions? Do you really think the diablo 2 expension cost millions to make? Then why are they charging 50$ for it? How about the neverwinter nights expensions? Do you think they cost millions to produce?

You're getting your monthly expension by download. You're paying it like every other expensions on the market.

If you don't plan to play for a month, cancel your subscription for that month, no one is forcing you to pay.

Playing on a 56k is possible in some game. Ragnarok Online give you the client and a month for free, and it's not more sucessfull than most games for that.

They're not overpriced. The content that come with the game at retail is always equal or biggger than the one from a single player game. Why shouldn't you pay as much as a single player game for it?

The monthly payment cover the monthly expension as well as the servers, gm, tech support and profit.

Why should a company turn down the 50$ they can get? If they sell 500 000 copies that's 25 millions right there. They aren't making a community service, they're making money.

This is the Everquest 2 thread, not a thread to debate MMORPGS in general. If you have anything else to add on that, please do it here. Don't worry, the people that read this thread and participated in the discussion also read the other. Let's leave the Everquest 2 fans their thread.

the huge guy?? i dunno.. his race is a troll (which is pretty obvious i think). but they make the weapons proportionate to the size of your character .

I had a hard time getting into EQ2, I was in the beta for it. The main reason for that is the fact I play Dark Age of Camelot, have several level 50 toon's and have no real desire to try and level up in a new game and aquire the goodies necessary for survival in a new world. Also the same reason why I dont change servers or realms. If and when I grow bored with DAoC I will more then likely retire from the mmorpg scene and go back to a normal life of playing in the fields and riding my bike and all that goodness, oh wait, I do to, thank God for my children
