Do you have the Fixpack v3.61?

Dundee, you also suggested that Cavaliers could mimic the Undead Hunter's immunity to Hold by using the Ring of Free Action. This is true, but do you really want to give up your Ring of Protection+2 for it? Although you're right in that you could just use a Potion or spell.

The only way that I am going to wear a RoP +2 is if I am wearing non-enchanted armour. Red Dragon Scale Armour is magical and the bug has been fixed in ToB. I can exchange my Ring of Earth Control with the Ring of Free Action, Ring of Gaxx stays on permanently.

You're also correct when you say that ranged weapons are "Not a big issue" for a Tank. There WAS a time when my UH was primarily an archer, but that's when my Berserker->Cleric was the Tank. Now that I've seen the error of that path (B->C has a few more hitpoints, but Miss UH has WAY better THACO & Saving Throws), she only whips out her bow on a few rare occasions. But at least she CAN whip out a bow; Cavaliers are stuck with the Axe, and Undead Hunters can learn the Axe too.

But as I have said before, what for? The only time I used throwing axes was against certain bosses whom I did not want to melee as they dealt incredible damage( especially the last one, as I fought her on Insane Difficulty as opposed to Core as I used to for SoA).

Rangers and Paladins are primarily "role-playing people" classes. Power gamers will want specialized characters as they level much quicker. Level is the benchmark of power, so characters that level quicker gain power quicker. For a simple tank, almost nothing beats a straight fighter. Quick levels, not to mention being able to go to grand mastery. Leave the spell casting to the mages and priests. The Archer is an exception as no one else does as well with missile weapons. He will level slower though. Straight class clerics and mages will get spell abilities quickest. Multi-class is tricky too. Certain combinations are counter productive. Fighter-mages for instance. A fighter without armor is not much of a fighter. So the experience is somewhat wasted until you get some potent magic protections. Even then your potential is still compromised. Mage-thief on the other hand is more complimentary since the restrictions of both classes more closely match. Dual-class throws a whole new science onto things. I've been told that dualing an archer to a mage can be quite rewarding. Try to play the game for its fun rather than power gaming. Smart fighting is much more helpful than powerful characters anyway, not to mention more interesting.
