Yes its true. I've been reading Ultimate X-Men since issue #1. And to answer your question, its considered an alternate timeline. There's also Ultimate Spiderman, Daredevil and The Ultimates (aka Ultimate Avengers). The concept was good since from a business point of view new readers could jump in without being intimidated by the tangled continuity of the Claremont era. Old X-Men fans like myself we're also interested for the same reason, as well as to see the X-Men get a contemporary update. There has been some speculation as to whether Marvel will 'Ultimize' the entire Marvel-verse but somehow I don't see that happening. As for the comic. Well, in my opinion the first twelve issues were good (they covered the Magneto and Weapon X arcs) however the writing standard kind of fell after that. However they'll be changing the creative team next month so things will hopefully pick up. There's also been a revamp of sorts for the other X-Books as well which happened about two years ago in terms of the main storyline.

Yes, I do agree, Rahne Sinclair(Wolfsbane) is one of the more interesting characters.

With regards to the revamp, well, if I'm not mistaken, some time back, I thought Marvel planned some sort of "new improved" X-Men revamp/re-imagination or whatever they called it then. Something about having the teenaged version, of the current X-Men running around. Imagine Teen Wolverine, Teen Storm etc. I think they even planned on giving Teen Wolverine an oh so trendy goatie as well. Gee, whiz!

The trouble with comics is, every new writer that comes along decides that he/she would shake things up a little by mucking about with established characters and giving it their very own "twist". What next? Wolvie finally decides to settle down and becomes a manicurist/hairstylist?

Considering that a "teen" version of Woverine would be minus the adamantium claws and skeletal armor....all he could do is sit there and take punishment and heal himself....rather a boring mutant.

Having read the series, its not even half as bad as Finn says it is, it fact its position as one of Marvels top sellers (beating Uncanny, formerly Marvel's flagship title) proves otherwise. true, the Ultimate X-Men squad is portrayed as younger (late-teens) than their regular counterparts. This is only fair since it is set during the team's formative years. And Ultimate Wolverine is definately not a teen, he's the same 90+ year old Wolverine we're familiar with. I agree with the goatee though. Damn, it looks dorky. But I can live with it.

Actually I don't remember Artie talking OR telepathing, but then I've only seen the film once.

The X-Men Evolution Cartoon Series has most of the characters as teenagers, at the mutant academy. There are however, some "teachers" there... in other words, alot of them are still adults.
The ones who are definately adults: Mystique, Magneto, Storm, Beast, Wolverine, Juggernaught, and (ofcourse) Prof X.
Definately kids: Cyclops, Jean, Shadowcat, Nightcrawler, Rogue, Spyke, Toad, Tabitha, Quicksilver, that guy who can make earthquakes (forget his name), Cyclops' Brother (forget his name too).
I *think* I've also seen Gambit in one episode, but I'm not sure if he was adult or a kid.

Avalanche (who is Greek, at least in the comics) can generate seismic waves (a fascinating power, if used properly) and Havok, who can generate rather destructive plasma blasts. Cyclops and Havok, incidentally, are immune to each other's powers.

I really can't stand the trend of transforming adult comic characters into teenaged versions of themselves. In fact, I don't like the idea of "teenaged superhumans" at all. Oh, well....

(Spoilers)
The fact that they cut the entire Phoenix saga short and even killed the leader of the Hellfire Club, Sebastian Shaw, a few pages after his initial introduction was a bit of a disappointment... And Psylocke was dead before she ever even made an appearance in her superhero costume and dito codename. It's certainly... different.
Ya got to be honest though, all these characters started out as teens...the X-Men, Peter Parker...the problem is, that todays writers are lazy, they can't come up with anything fresh, so they recycle the old standby's. It may be a curse of getting old, but every day, I notice works that are just reusing old plots and stories with very very minor changes or innovation.

On the other hand, Kids today need to have their comic book heros

Edit: Nice to se I am not the only one who remembers HavoK Cosmic Ray powered Plasma Blasts...ohhhh yeah! Then there is the "Power Cosmic" as used by Galactus and His Heralds such as The Silver Surfer, Nova and Terraxe...and others Nova by the way was the former Ms. Marvel (aka Carol Danvers) before Rogue sucked the juce right out of her
