Actually, I just thought of another topic: What is your (all of you who've read them) thought on the spear Mat carries? What does it stand for?

(Forgive me if this was made obvious in the book when he got it, but I can't remember any explanation - to date - on what it is. I know the amulet protects him from magic being used on him, but I don't remember specifics on the spear.)

The spear was one of the power-made items laying around in the ruins where the doorway was. They used it to hang him with and gave him a nice lil engraving on it while they were at it. Other than that, to the foxes at least I don't think it held any significance, although I'd guess the snakes knew about it due to it's ravens and how they'll have an effect with the DotNM.

Thanks! This means I haven't missed anything about it yet. One more of those 'to be revealed' things. I hope he brings in more about the foxes and such in an upcoming book. That was some cryptically fascinating stuff. Especially the riddles and rules. He's got such a great mind for that.

Well...you're dragging this one out of me Matt is gonna be going with Thom to rescue Moraine. He's pretty pissed at both of them, plus he knows that game of Snakes and Foxes really well, and knows you have to cheat to win. So of course being as he's great at that sort of thing.... Thom will be there but Mat will be the one to beat the snakes and foxes That's my take anyways.
Oh, and uh.... there's a distinct possibility that Olver is Gaidal Cain....
I could let out lots more tidbits like that but I'd rather you came up with questions first hehe.

The only question I have about that is how? Gaidal Cain disappeared from Tel'aran'rhiod about the time that Mat and Rand were in Rhuidean, and Olver was already about nine at the time...
Somebody posted a WoT discussions link here once, I checked it out but the list of rules was ten pages long so I though *what the heck, I'll keep my ideas to myself*

Aye what you say is true, but Tel'aran'rhiod has a totally different time flow than the real world. what you say is the one critical argument we have against this being true though. Still...it seems very coincidental that Gaidal disappears, Birgitte becomes a major character, and then Olver appears and is umm buttugly hehe. Also, care to tell me who the old man now traveling with Mat is?

Book 9 is finally out in paperback next week (much as I love the series there is no way I'm paying nearly £20 for the hardback version).

Yes, indeed I did!
I finished books 1-8 in about 2 months. I disagree with some of the views here, in that I don't think the story slowed down at all. Every time a question was answered, it threw up 3 more questions. Talk about a web of intrigue. I have now got my dad hooked, by giving him the book 1 that I originally found in that charity shop....

I pick up the 1st edition hardbacks....maybe someday they'll go up in value. I started out with the first 5 books in paperback, and bought book 6 the day it came out. But they are so large that the paperbacks don't hold up well after several readings. I found books 3-5 1st edition in the local bookstore used and picked them up for like 10 bucks apiece, only a couple dollars more than the paperbacks, and they are so much nicer. Now I just need to get the first two hehe.
