Whats people opinions of who is the best author out of these 2. i know these things have been done many times before and im guessing salvatore will come out top by a long shot but they are my 2 fav authors and just thought id get ppls opinions on them
I prefer Salvatore because the characters in his books seem to have more depth. You can relate to them alot better than the characters in Fiest's Magician series. Saying that though, Fiest's Daughter of the Empire seemed to do 180 turn with regard to this.

At the end of the day I have enjoyed the books of both Authors.

I think the serpentwar saga is better because its easier to identify yourself with the characters since they aren´t superhuman wariors or powerful mages but mostly just normal humans.
And don´t forget those Demons, scary stuff.

Hey I thought salvatore was the author of this kickass series but wasnt sure. The woods out back and the dragons dagger rule its similar to forgotten realms rules but gnomes are technology freaks inventing techno stuff instead of miners and shamans.

Hmm, went looking for some Salvatore to try at the bookshop today - response was "Who's he, what does he write, sorry, we don't have much call for him". It sounded a bit like the Monty Python sketch - didn't ask them about "Ethyll the Aardvark goes Quantity Surveying" though . Did pick up the latest Pratchett and the last Robin Hobb of the Liveship series (nearly finished the 2nd one, picked it up on 6th Avenue NY). I will try for some Salvatore again when I get up to the Big Smoke (Perth) on the weekend - they have specialty SF/Fantasy stores.

And for the poll - RIFTWAR is superior - the serpentwar was just a pale imitation. I guess the waiting 4 or 5 years between Magician and A Darkness at Sethannon might have had something to do with the anticipation factor in my case.

I can't compare the two cuz I'm on my first Salvatore novel right now. I'm reading and enjoying The Spine of the World by Salvatore right now and thoroughly enjoying it.

Good stuff!

True to my word, have purchased Salvtore's Dark Elf Trilogy today to make the comparison. Only problem is that I have the last Robin Hobbs to complete (barely started), the latest Pratchett hardcover, and a Mechwarrior novel to read first. Will let you all know by about October how the comparison went .
