Ahh, to be quoted by a high harper! *Bows* By my troth, tis an honour to be sure! Surely you aren't that pedantic though in real life - or are you? ![]() (hehe nah, three cheers for pedantic minds...I get accused of it fairly regularly.) @Jerr I agree with you in a way, it was predictable what was done with Edwin's ending. However, I tend to think that it reflected an entirely superficial and surface part of his character. Underneath that guise of cynical superiority was a soft unloved and lonely man, condemned by his intelligence to thirst for power. ![]() But yes, give me 18 intelligence, a Thay upbringing where power and status are hoarded and I'm sure I'd end up with a bit of egotism too. ![]() This begs the question of why isn't Edwin's intelligence only say 14-15 due to the ending - as I think that it would be more suited to a desperate ego/power hungry mage of around that value. Perhaps however, his decisions can be more accurately attributed in his very poor wisdom of 9. So maybe in a sense, his destiny was sealed from the start. Maybe he'd be wiser in his end-game decision making relative to the amount one could increase his wisdom by! Having an alternative ending-mod to reflect these ideas would be very cool. I have a soft spot for him, so I still think a chance was missed to deepen his character further by giving him more plausible motives in only concentrating on the egotism factor.

What's his Wisdom score? Attacking Elminster sounds more like a Wisdom problem than Intelligence.
And maybe someday you should ask Arledrian if I'm really that pedantic. [ 05-25-2004, 10:48 PM: Message edited by: Illumina Drathiran'ar ]

As I originally said, I think its only 9 from memory.
![]() If so, it'd certainly explain alot. But notice the problem with assuming that its only a Wisdom problem? If you've found ways throughout BG1 and II to increase it, (as there are plausible ways) the decision then becomes illogical. Thus, I don't think its an either/or intelligence/wisdom problem but rather a combination. He needs the intelligence to think he's capable of taking on Elminster but is yet unwise to do so. I don't think Arledrian and I have shared discourse before...mmm, maybe we have, there are too many ironworkers for me to know for certain. What did you do, pick his posts to infinite pieces? ![]() [ 05-26-2004, 12:22 AM: Message edited by: CerebroDragon ]

Nah, I pick his conversations to infinite pieces...
I suppose it might be partly a Wisdom problem and partly an overconfidence problem... He's not just blustery, he sincerely believes himself to be supremely powerful. Perhaps he interpreted Elminster's "Not even I would dare" comment as directed towards him. Even if he didn't, we know he considers himself above the PC. If Elminster considers himself below the PC, it stands to reason that Edwin considers himself above Elminster.

Now, if only there were a good ending for non-romanced Jaheira.

All of the "non-romanced" endings for the three females are rather drab. All of them are like "they just went on." Not terribly exciting ending; I guess they assumed they would be romanced.

Something I would like to see:
"I accept godhood. My first order of business is to make Viconia de'Vir my divine consort." But noooooooo.

I agree. It's cheesy that you can't take your romance with you.

Just the consort? Why not the whole party? Even if they are just "divine servants" to you, they still were loyal through everything. Why not reward them?

Some people wouldn't want it... And some people have their own gods. Aerie, Anomen, and Keldorn come to mind. The reason I nominated Viconia is because she doesn't really behave like a Sharran. But don't get me started on Viconia's alignment and deity.
