If you ever went to the computer club my screen name then was "Nails". I'll try and track down that copy of Monkey Island, theirs a couple of people that spring to mind. One person still has my copy of Theme Hospital (strangly enough i don't really miss it). Quote:

The town I've lived for ages, St. Willebrord, is known for the highest number of Mercedes's and drugs barons in the Netherlands.
And my current hometown Eindhoven... Awg, Eindhoven is known because of Philips, a certain company that was responsible for the invention of the CD (!).

Well I imagine we once had a convict settlement here, can't be sure but the oldest building is the supply building (it has a fancy name but I forget it) and supposedly there were convicts working in there. Plus Moreton Bay was a notorious penal colony and that's kinda Brisbane, just down the way a bit . We hosted the Goodwill games last year, and some over-excited people have taken to calling us Brisvegas, on account of all the night clubs . And we have Peter Beattie, most wonderful premier in Australia, in Australian history I would say (except for Joh lol ), presiding .

Great thread!! It's really interesting to find out the variety of things that places get well known for.
I'm currently living in Nottingham, famous for Robin Hood, lace, the Boots company and the Goose fare (a huge fare ground thingy held every September/October). I used to live in small town called Fleet in Hampshire. People I meet usually know where it is, because there is a motorway service station there. It's not the greatest reason to be famouse, but at least it is on a few maps now.
