I've kicked some men's asses John D. That woman obviously wasn't serious
She was serious but I knew I could block anything she threw at me. I grew up with 2 older brothers and learned how to make people miss or block their strikes. Beside I knew at anytime I could have delivered a left jab to her nose to stun followed by a spinning right and drop her like a stone. But it wouldn't of served any purpose, the next day the insides of her forarms were black and blue from where I blocked, and her hand was swollen for 3 days from the 1 shot to the top of my head that she managed to deliver. Of course it didn't help that I saw the punch coming and drove my head into the punch so I delivered the contact and not her.

re: spanking children. It doesn't work, no matter what people might say. I've seen too many children who get spankings and their behavior doesn't improve, at least in the long term. Why waste your effort? I find more creative ways of setting disciplinary punishments for TJ; he doesn't like them one iota, I assure you. The revocation of privileges is quite powerful, if used correctly.
re: other people. I would if I have to. In training, our instructor would not allow us to "pull our punches" against females; he wanted everyone treated equally in his class. Finally, woe unto anyone who tried to hurt Belle or TJ; I would not kill them, of course, just leave them hurt badly (which is probably worse). That said, no, I never condone violence. Unfortunately, it is sometimes needed--it seems to be all that some people understand.

Boxing has rules IN THE RING. Outside of that there are none I would nto be against, for instance, if a huge guy came my way, snogging him to distract him then breaking his kneecaps but i prefer not to inflict such damage
I like the way you think, a shot to the Kneecaps I think is even more devestating then a nut shot. I wouldn't want to inflict that kind of damage either.

When I was young, I had a very curious code of 'honour', if you will. Curious because it was extremely idiosyncratic - although its' precepts and guidelines really don't make sense when I look at them now, it made sense at the time. For example...
When I was about 13, a friend of mine was incredibly cut up over a 'girlfriend' who had 'dumped' him. He was 14, she was 15, it was one of those incredibly bizarre youg relationships where everything's too intense, and both prties are either screaming at each other's faces or all over each other in an amateurish, playing-at-romance kind of way. Anyway, this time he was upset because he found out she actually had a REAL boyfriend, and she'd told him to get lost. He was very broken, really; morose, full of disappointment and agression he couldn't really solve. I was also very cut up, as I had no wish really to see him in such a way. Anyway. A week later - at a youth disco - I happened to see her there. Fuelled by righteous anger and high on coke, I wandered up to her, tapped her on the shoulder and, when she turned around, gave her a wild swing across the bridge of the nose that sent her sprawling. Of course, her boyfriend was in attendance, and he - who was 16, and possibly a little drunk - proceeded to lay into me until someone calmed him down. By then I was a small crying heap of bruises, mind you... of course, no good came of it. I was never allowed to go to any of those discoes again, she and he broke up two months later as these things naturally do, and my friend cut me off completely for laying a hand on the belated love of his life. So, a cautionary tale there, to any would-be love vigilantes - getting in the first punch doesn't help one bit, and violence just makes a bad situation worse...

MagiK, perhaps it does require a different approach for every child. You cannot force all children into the same disciplinary mold. We'll just agree to disagree, yes?
