Well, corporal is the minimum required rank for serving on a Naval Ship. Below that, there is the Private. And yes, there is a handful of cooks and non-Naval staff (included in 'Operations'), although cleaning is largely automated. The remainer of your questions is answered in the new 'Background' thread I've just posted to keep the large amounts of technical information away from the character-related questions.

Thanks. You did double-post the topic (here and here) by the way
![]() Based on the numbers there, I added a sketch of some NPCs I'm likely to know of and interact with to the bottom of my character sheet for your approval. Also, since the Jaguar laserknife is apparently standard kit among most groups, does that mean the engineers can be assumed to have their own or do I borrow them from the armoury? Another important question: what are the federation colours we're wearing? |

I'll be posting shortly. I just need a bit of time to think up an intro post. Currently, I'm considering going with the whole "wake up in bunk to another day" approach.

The Federation colors are grey, black and yellow. In that specific order. The 'Jaguar' is standard issue for engineers as well as marines, but since they are not allowed to take any weapon back to their quarters, you'll have to run to the armoury to get one.
Calaethis: I can help you get started with an intro that has a bit more of a connection with your character then the current one. Or, you can have Ricor and Uytio run into each other in the mess. Also, I don't mind getting started with the main thread, but I won't launch the central plotline until we reach the minimum of four players. |

I hope this will do.
Name: Scott Avery Skill: Marine Rank: Corporal Abilities: 12 points +3 Physical: 4 Dexterity: 3 Charisma: 3 Knowledge: 2 Wit: 3 Appearance: Height: 6’ 3” Weight: 230 lbs Age: 21 Eyes: Bright Green Hair: Sandy Blonde, buzz cut. Scott has the chiseled looks of one who works out on a more then regular basis. He has a pale but healthy complexion, a by product of the Zeta Delta 5, he cannot tan. Background: Scott was born to a farming family in the Orion Alliance. He was an active football player and wrestler and was well liked by his teachers and fellow students. Joining the military at the age of 18, he studied various hand to hand arts and weapon technologies at which he excelled and was quickly promoted to Corporal. Serving on board several frigates with various duties such as recon, night watch, Captains Guard, he came up for a permanent position on board the TF Arioch. Scott is well trained in hand to hand combat, light, medium and heavy weapons, explosive ordinance, Plasma Turret, Flak Cannon and Paladin firing systems. Personality: Scott is a well mannered farm boy and this comes through a bit in his dealings with other personnel. He comes off as a warm person and thus people feel comfortable talking with him, however at times he can be a bit standoffish. He has trained hard in the martial arts and knows it, and this comes through at times in his attitude at times when certain circumstances arise. When pressed though he rises to the occasion and usually exceeds expectations. He enjoys hard work and has incredible stamina for hard labor. Green to hard combat, having only been engaged in small skirmishes with random rebels he still handles himself well above someone with his light experience would and his seniors have been keeping an eye on him with hopes he will become more. |

To explain 'Scott's' extra ability points: for roleplaying-related reasons, Elif decided to start lower on the skill tree. So I granted him three extra ability points and the option to upgrade one tier at some point in the future.
![]() I've also moved all information concerning history, politics and equipment to the new thread. It should be easier to find there. Last edited by Dreamer128; 09-19-2007 at 04:08 PM. |

Character time!
Name: Philbert Sigismund Wolf Skill: Xeno-Medicus Rank: Doctor Abilities: Physical: 1 Dexterity: 3 Charisma: 1 Knowledge: 4 Wit: 3 Appearance: Height: 193 cm (sorry I'm metric :p) Weight: 68 kg (sorry, still metric) Age: 39 Eyes: black Hair: none Looking at him you wouldn't think that Professor Wolf is a scientist. Tall and quite thin and with his head he shaves every three-four days he doesn't fit the stereotypical description of a scientist. Background: Philbert Sigismund Wolf, or Professor Wolf as he allows himself to be called by those unable to remember his given names, is the son of one of the best, now retired, neurosurgeons that the academy had ever produced. Not content to live from his father's name and ignoring his mother's wishes of him becoming a school teacher, he enrolled in the academy, but chose alien life as his speciality, much to his father's chagrin. He was still quite a good doctor and for several years after finishing the academy and while he still did not have the necessary funding he had to earn money by working in a private clinic. He finally got funding and was able to abandon simple medical work and concentrate on research. He would have never told anyone but he looked down on simple medical work, which did not advance knowledge in the least and always preferred pushing the boundaries of known science through groundbreaking research. Considered one of the best in his domain of the studies of alien lifeforms he was a natural choice for the deep space voyages of the Arioch. With the 'helpful' hand of a rival interested in seeing him gone for several years he was offered a post on board the ship. Personality: Professor Wolf was never a very social person, always preferring the company of books and experiments to that of other people who could not comprehend him. Of course the problem of comprehension also comes from him. Being a very avid reader and having read works spanning centuries he has an extremely vast vocabulary and also likes to use it. Phrases like "Deign to transfer the sodium-chloride?" are much more common in his vocabulary as "Could you pass the salt?" Apart from his trusted lab-assistant, who came with him on board, even some of the other scientist occasionally have trouble understanding him. And the common crew have already gotten to know him enough that it was almost impossible to have a normal conversation with him. If he really wants to tell something to someone he'll, with a good serving of disgust, lower his speech to the intellectual level of others. Otherwise it is quite common to see his assistant "interpret" for him. He frowns on anyone calling him Doctor, even though it is his rank on the ship and prefers to be called Professor. Elif, I'm not trying to be a pain here, but could I possibly convince you to change to a colour that's slightly less bright? Cyan is painful on the eyes. Sorry. =\
