Interesting. . .
I never realized Mirror Image protected you from AOE spells. That's so absolutely silly.
That's what I get for playing D&D rather than the infinity engine.

So true!
I only use three types of magical defences:
1. Stoneskins, 24/7, and Spell Immunity : Abjuration to keep the Stoneskins on. This is necessary, because i'm playing with the Improved X mods, where the enemies are trying to remove Stoneskins all the time.
2. For tough fights, Mislead + Spell Immuntiny : Divination will protect me from being targeted by ANYTHING for the duration, spells AND melee... The invisibility remains even while casting! Just don't forget to keep the clone out of the enemy's sight.
3. For specific fights, when i know what i'm facing, Spell Immunity : X serves me well. This is, of course, heavily abusing OOC (out-of-character) knowledge.

1) Mirror Image, self explanatory.

2) Resist Fear, as I said on my spell list, a panicked solo Sorcerer/Mage is a dead Sorcerer/Mage.

3) Stoneskin, self explanatory.

4) Spell Immunity, explained already.

5) Protection from Magical Weapons, needed very badly in ToB, especially with the Ascension and Sola Mods.

I don't know why, but i hardly use it.
Stoneskin protects me from melee attacks, and Spell Immunity protects me from Area-of-Effect damage like cloudkill or ADHW.
It's an excellent spell though - i should use it more often.

2) Resist Fear, as I said on my spell list, a panicked solo Sorcerer/Mage is a dead Sorcerer/Mage.

Of course. Mandatory, but i use my priest for Fear-protection.
I only listed my Arcane defenses

3) Stoneskin, self explanatory.

Say no more.

4) Spell Immunity, explained already.

An amazing defense spell when used correctly.
The only spell protection that will ALWAYS save you from AoE spells (with Mirror Image you will still suffer from a onc per number of images chance to get hurt).
Use with the clone spells for total chaos (I already mentioned Mislead + SI: Div, and PI + SI: Div and SI: ABJ gives you an undispellable spell turret).

5) Protection from Magical Weapons, needed very badly in ToB, especially with the Ascension and Sola Mods.

Indeed, but i only use it with Fighter/Mages.
Mislead + SI: Div keeps me from being targeted by melee attack.
Of course, some creatures can see through Invisibility - but that's what scrolls are for.

I do not really like to rely on scrolls because it takes too long since they are not affected by the Robe of Vecna or the Amulet of Power. With the spell in my spell slot, casting it is instant.

The long casing time for scrolls is not a problem, IMO.
The biggest problem with long casting time is bigger chance of spell disruption - but since casting from scrolls can't be interrupted...

1) Mirror Image, I dont really use this much, i have one memorised, but i never (hardly ever anyway) cast it.

2) Resist Fear, don't use this either, i very rarely panic!(most things die too fast to use it on me) When they do, im usually invisible due to the SotM.

3) Stoneskin, self explanatory.

4) Spell Immunity, don't really use this one either (occasionally use it).

5) Protection from Magical Weapons, don't need, cant be seen = can't be hit.

6) Spirit armor, i like for the + to save vs spells, but i very rarely use (note: also makes character look cool!)

7) Spell turning, only use if my spell trap from SotM runs out

8) protection from normal weapons, dont need, see 5)

9) protection from evil, SotM 'nuff said.
