Schwienfurt Germany, 2nd "Dagger" Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division (Big Red One). We were in pre-deployment stages for Kosovo peace keeping operations.

We immediately went into force protection (for you movie die hards) FORCE-CON-ONE Red ALert Alpha! Full weapons and ammo issue, full body armor, military installation and family protection. We remained in that status for 121 days, full operations, 24x7. Whole Battalions at a time, full companys either Red, Green, or Black(on shift, preping for shift, down from shift).

We deployed to Kosovo 123 days later, and spent 7 months there. Returned the Fall of 02, and received operational orders for the Iraq theather of operations for the Spring of 2004.

It was while in Kosovo that we saw the actual footage of the events, we had done so much other stuff, nobody had ever seen the news, or the actual events.

This is when we learned that 6 of our soldiers had lost family that day, they had remained quiet, and marched on, until that evening. This was also the same evening that country music star Toby Keith visted us, and said he would see us again down range. He in fact visit while patrolling the streets of Kumal, so he does in fact have the right to be called "BRO"!

History gets repeated when you forget it. [/QUOTE]History will repeat itself irregardless. Remembering all the atrocities commited to you does not make further atrocities less likely.

The correct quote is that those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. IOW, whatever mistakes were made, if they're not learned from, will be made again. And again. And again...

There's a difference between learning from what has happened and carrying a grudge.
