![]() On an unrelated side notice, I actually liked watching one day internatinal cricket matches (and played cricket myself quite a lot). It's the test matches I cant stand. EDIT- Clarification: If Arvon: Football is boring. Too little scroing. ZFR: You should not criticise sports. By the way, cricket is boring. =Hypocrisy But Arvon: Football is boring. Too little scoring ZFR: Football is interesting. Cricket is boring. =Not agreeing with Arvon's opinion. ![]() [ 07-15-2006, 03:12 PM: Message edited by: ZFR ]

Well, don't call me a sailor, but I do enjoy life on the water. Sorry to disappoint... but I still think it's more challenging.

![]() with the WC a close second. [/QUOTE]But is the fact that you find it entertaining enough for it to be called the Greatest? Like, objectively? Can a tournament that only involves two countries and a sport that a large proportion of the world does not play or are interested in be the greatest? I'm interested in what the Greatest event is, not your favourite. Was that not clear? You could easily recognise objectively that a certain event is hugely influential, popular, spectacular, etc., without personally enjoying watching it or liking the sport that it involves. Like, my favourite band might totally be Lee Press-on and the Nails, but if I were to vote on the Greatest Band Ever I would probably give the nod to the Beatles or the Stones or something, recognising that their influence, talent, longevity, etc. is what is relevant, not just that I personally like to listen to Lee and the boys. You know?

Fair enough Aelia, tho the stanley finals are probably my favourite by you're reckoning Id say the greatest would likely be the World Cup although the Champions League would be a definate contender..
Will have to think on that..

I'd hardly say that only 2 countries are represented in the pursuit of Lord Stanley's Cup.
Sure, the teams are only from the US or Canada, but the players hail from every part of the world. ![]() Without any specific parameters to define what would determine greatness, I stand by my original assesment for the Stanley Cup Final is, in my opinion, the greatest sporting event. After witnessing the unbelievable noise levels at Rexall Place first hand during Game 3, I'm not alone with my opinion.

The more I think about it the more I'm for the IOM TT races. Any event that has had 222 deaths since it started in 1907 has got to be classed as extreme. With such talented riders as Mike Hailwood, Carl Fogerty, Giacomo Agostini, Geoff duke as winners and the fact that the senior race one of about 12 different races through the week was actually the British Grand Prix untill 1976.
Pic of John McGuiness winning this years main race. Note the road not race track, and look how close you get to the action as a spectator. ![]()

The Race track is 37 mile long and when the races are over for the day you can ride your own motorbike around the circuit (average winning speed about 125 mph!!!) what other world class sporting event allows such audiance participation? Ive been lucky to go 3 times before and though it is very hard to get to like mecca for the muslims if you like motorcycles you have to visit once in your life
