It scares me more that he also has a lot of younger fans, their lifes must be really miserable.

Btw...one of my closest friends has a portrait of Frans' face tattood on his chest. I've been poking fun and pissing him off about it ever since he got it, which is almost 4 years now. It's gotten so far, that even when it's 30 degrees hot or more, he won't take off his shirt when i'm around.

Illmatic is top five albums of all times. Jay-Z is also very good lyrically. Twista rocks with his incredible flow. But I don't like these new "pimp" rappers. 50 Cent - can't see any quality there. OK he has big muscles but that's all.

Why does having big muscles add to his appeal as a rapper? They don't come much buffer thsn Governator Ah-nold but I don't see him busting any rhymes.

You're right about Twista, that boy got flow!

Apparently Jay-Z has lost a lot of respect in the rap community, because he relies to heavy on Notorious B.I.G lyrics, even "biting" (copying) B.I.G's material.

DMX is releasing a new album this July 23rd, told ya rappers never retire

Nothing. I just don't like that he says that he still lives "in da hood" and how many times has he been shot and all. It just isn't too logicall to rap about ghetto and these things when you clearly don't live there anymore. Now he has his H2, 28' rims etc...

Uhuh, that's true.

It's one of the main reasons he keeps trying to instigate conflict with other rappers, so that he'll actually have someting to rap about!

BTW, Vaskez, I picked up that Gang Sstar album you meantioned,it is pretty good

Gang Starr rules! GURU is one of my favorite rappers and one of the best. Premier is among the elite Djs and Producers. My favorite Album is "Daily Operation".

A music discussion thread, and all they talk about is light music instead of artistic music. Why don't you people go listen to something in which you'll really be discovering music in all of it's facets. Rap and all that is so shallow compared to a LOT. Same goes for pop, soft rock, hard rock, RnB, punk, punkrock etc.

The DUO I mentioned, Gang Starr, revolutionized melding Jazz with Hip-Hop. They innovated a whole East Coast scene back in the early 90s, Shallow it is not.
My love for jazz now can be traced back to hip hop of that era. I could list dozens of hip hop artists who are just that- artists-poets-musicians-commentators.

Dont get me wrong, I see your point because there is a bunch of fake shallow crap out there, just not all of it.

Since you're saying pretty much all forms of rock and rap are shallow, I have this impression you're a country fan, if you are, well, I'll go ahead and digress.

There are very few rappers in which I like, very few and I'll admit it takes skill just like it does to play bass, electric, drums, what have you to say the lyrics that they do. I've listened to them, and they're skilled, but it's what they rap about that gets old. Shoot this, f**k that, smoke, kill, the crap gets old after so long and it's been going strong over a couple of decades now.

Oh, as far as retiring goes, Jay-Z retiring, at what, 34? Then I see him doing all these collaboration albums and tours with other names. No one that's a musician or an artist retires that young.

<_<

I'm not even sure I should dignify this incredibly opinionated post with an answer, since I doubt that I'm going to change your mind, but I will anyway.

"Why don't you people go listen to something in which you'll really be discovering music in all of it's facets."

Please give me an example.

The music genres I enjoy listening to are:

Rap
RnB
Rock (all types, hard, soft punk, old school, even rock that hasn't been invented yet )
Electronica
Garage
Jazz
Dance
Country
and Blues.

Aside from Classical Music and Pop Music I don't believe I'm missing out on a great deal.

"A music discussion thread, and all they talk about is light music instead of artistic music."

One person's art is another's garbage.

"Rap and all that is so shallow compared to a LOT. Same goes for pop, soft rock, hard rock, RnB, punk, punkrock etc."

Please give me an example, since you basically nuked a large proportion of valid genres.

Calling rap, let alone any musical genre shallow is simply not a fair criticism unless you're very familiar with the genre in question. I assure you, for every rap song that places an emphasis on "ladies, blunts and cars" there is a song that conveys a real and significant message(e.g.the struggle of the youth today, problems in America and the world in general, the problems that we face everyday in life, etc). In fact, I believe that rap is the musical genre that discusses issues faced by ordinary people everyday the most. How could that be considered shallow?
