Insect Plague can make a Dragon panic, ever seen the Shadow Dragon run away from you? Heh, heh, heh... ...

Spook is another good spell to instill fear into them Dragons.

Multiple level 12+ Chromatic Orbs are a wonderful thing as well. Just remember to cast Greater Malison and Doom beforehand.

Always scatter your party, I surround them so they can't hit everyone at once. Definately cast resist fear, summon a few beasties to soak up any initial spells they get off. I always have 3 wizards nail them with "lower resistance", while Jahiera and Vic cast "Insect Plague and Summon Insects" to lock down his spell casting. My wizards will then wreak havoc with "Magic Missiles", and Cleric's cast "Miscast Magic" and "Insect Plague" on them again, while my Tank and summoned beasties attack melee.

Sythe, next time you want to mention the Slayer ability, attach a spoiler tag. There are still people who do not know of the Slayer ability.

Most people defeat Dragons without using the Slayer ability. Especially since they prefer to fight the Dragons before Chapter 4.

I don't know about anyone else, but in SoA I went up against both the Shadow Dragon and Fikkragg (sp?) and didn't have to kill either one of them. I got this stone for the Shadow Dragon, and with the other one, I just said the right things, and he didn't turn on me.

Why didn't anyone else do that?

U dont have to kill them, the dragons wont turn on u unless u turn on them! But most of us want the XP that u get for killing those dragons(lots of XP) and also the items that u get for killing them.

Besides, both Dragons are evil.

Firkragg, Gorion( your foster father) himself tried to kill Firkragg, so there has to be a reason why. Firkragg kidnapped Garren's child( even though Garren posed no threat to him, and was merely a lure to get you to come) and financially ruined him. Firkragg also threw away the lives of several Paladins by casting an illusion over your party and them. Furthermore, he hoards an artifact that belongs to the Paladins.

And you ask why we want to kill him?

The Shadow Dragon( ain't gonna type out the whole name) is an abomination, and a threat to the world. The only reason you can bypass the fight is through a wardstone, but you will be doing Faerun a service by getting rid of it.

There are five Dragons in the game. Three of them are evil. Good-aligned players like myself will not fight the other two.

dragons are stupid when they cant see you attacking them. Firkhaag for example is as stupid as his eggs. because the dragons wont attack you when they see you, youll have a lot of time to prepare. in case of firkhaag, you have to busy him with some summoned animals or monsters. like in my case, i have an archer and two mages (range adventuring) you will need some meelee attackers to busy a lizard while you fry him with magic. be sure to have a lot of pierce magic and some sorth. i killed fikhaag in just thirty seconds.... beat that.

Regarding Firekrag:

I used:
a couple of Cloudkills.
a couple of Ice Storms.
in the end the big ol´red went down to nothing but the good ol´trusted magic misile...

I never got in his sight...that might have proven dangerous!!!

Regarding the shadowdragon Thaliyxxiall(or something like that!)

I used:
Hack´nSlash...everybody jumped the sucker and he was dogmeat in a spiff!

I find the shadowdragon to be the most easy of the greater foes in BG2

THE GREATES ADVICE I CAN GIVE AND HAVEN`T SEEN IS

USE THE DAMNED TRAPS FROM Yoshimo or another thief...skull traps and other traps are good to!!
