Yes, you get more "most times", but we don't care about "most times". All you need is one money making recipe for each level of material (linen, wool, silk...).
I can't speak for all tradeskill, but there are many time that I was getting more out of my leather by crafting items and selling them than by just selling the leather. |

Of course, that is why I am asking about iridescent pearls. My 3 best recipes all require them, and the rod I have to make for enchanting at skill 150 needs one, too. I haven't found any at all, and they sell for at least 1g each in the AH (which would eat up just about all of my profits).
