I hold one mouse on one hand, however, I don't hold an ice cream on the other ( I hate ice cream ). I'm not fat. I hate all those artists you mention. I don't masturbate in ricky martin poster ( YUCK!!! ) . I don't play idiotic games all day long as I have a job to do, meetings to attend.

so, what does that make me?

I have a great social life, I go out and I'm never called geek, nerd, dumbo nor weird, for christ sake does anybody ever saw the film costa? the one with al those ''propper'' guys in it that sale disco tickets and lure lady's in disco's so they can **** them?

I'm not saying I'm equal to them, but I do sell tickets for a rather big club here in Holland... I get my share of the lady's (more then I need actually ) and I'm not that un-populair.

I know this sounds pretty much arrogant but, I also attend here like 4 a 5 hours a day (IW) and also play BG II, I'm no geek... I just enjoy my computer and the things he can do and what I can do with it.

There is no stereotype... only people think that if someone uses the computer more than 2 hours a day is probably is a geek and nows everything about it, haven't got a social life, plays Quake III al night long and mastrubates on every single free porno site... WAKE UP!!! not everybody is like that! I don't even know some one thats fat, ugly, surfs the internet for 12 hours in a row, mastrubates on boy band posters, eats ice cream and popcorn at the same time he's drinking cola... its a stereotype people create because they cannot imagazine a normal person would like it to play on the computer... only geeks do it!

This were we make the mistake, the computer and games are a normal part of our world to day... everybody will be a geek if they put computer and geek in the same place, because everybody uses them these days, either for fun or work, information, forums, ect....

Point noted...

Sometimes this strange picture is really true, but mostly it's prejudice...
What gamers are?
Intelligent people enjoying spending their time on computer?
Not allways.
Cool guys which can pick up all girls with their knowledge obout games?
Rarely.
Skinny idiots with REALLY big dioptry?
Sadly, but sometimes.

So What do You think?
That's not me! I don't like Shakira!

I'd like to say a few words on this topic, if I may.

I personally don't like any situation where anyone singles out a certain group or group of people and puts them in a category. Anyone can enjoy video games, just as anyone can enjoy ice cream or anything else. There is no certain group that gamers belong to that is clearly defined. I am 16, and yes, I'd say I am overweight, but that doesn't mean that I sit here playing games, eating ice cream and masturbating all day long. I do enjoy computer games, but they aren't my life. I am busy with acting and school commitments as well. Saying that all gamers are fat is like saying all barbers/hairdressers are gay. Granted, some are, but others, like my father, are not.

I hate stereotypes, because ever since I was 11, I had been put into a group and called gay, simply because I was friends with someone whose father was gay. I am not gay whatsoever. But stereotypes seemed to decide that I was. Basically, they gave me hell. I seriously contemplated suicide many many times from the age of 11 to 14. No child should have to live like that.

I am not flamebaiting, or trying to start a flame war or anything like that. I am just saying that I believe one of mankind's greatest (if not the single greatest) flaws is a lack of tolerance. We need to step away from such issues, and focus on more important things. I think this was probably a harmless post, but I'd like to make my views abundantly clear.

Thank you for reading.
pcgiant.

Ew Donut - wrong move even mentioning light-cloured substances and a Ricky Martin poster - you've gone and put a not veyr nice image in my head. *pukes*

Stereotypes are obviously not always very nice but they arise because of REAL GENERAL patterns. I think it's true that a large number of HEAVY gamers are overweight simply because they spend too much time on gaming that they have no time/will for sport. The stereotype wouldn't have arose if it wasn't true for a large number of people ...obvioulsy not everyone though.

Ice-cream and Ricky Martin are just an emphasis, I am sure, you didn't have to take that literally.

They usually have a really low social intelligence and are really quiet in public and they dont have many real life friends.
You almost described me here. Except that I am not ugly, in fact, I am quite handsome .
And I don't think that my social status is low because I spend a lot of time on computer, it is the other way around. I hadn't had many friends even before I got a PC. Great majority of my schoolmates, friends and people in general think that entertainment cannot go without drinks and smokes (not to mention drugs). Their concept of Saturday afternoon is going to a bar and drink, then going to a club and drink some more, and after that, going to disco and drink again. I tried hanging out with such people, but I couldn't understand them and gave up soon after. If that is an alternative, then I am happy with my Baldur's Gate. What is the point of being in a place where the music is so loud that you barely hear your own thoughts? And it amuses them somehow. It's hard to find somebody who shares my outlook. You can pity me, but can you blame me?

I was talking about the disturbing origins of the word, not the intend for it's modern-day use, first of all, like a history lesson on japanese slang vocabulary,

anyways... Halcyon Otaku is a double meaning, both saying Home of the Halcyon and Halcyon Fanatics, which it is, a compilation of Halcyon-Inspired Works of Manga
