I'm going to have redo my Win98 drive and dual boot with Win 2000 as soon as I get the motivation.

XP as an OS is too graphically intense and is a memory hog. I won't be running it on my home machine anytime soon.

I agree that 2000 is better than XP and that XP is a major memory hog. XP is very pretty too look at, but it sure sucks up RAM and slows the whole system down doing so. Note the Recommended System Requirements.

I Installed Windows ME and my all the drivers for my Mainbboard and ti4200 video card. I then installed and ran 3DMark2001. My CPU is only a 1.4GHz AMD 1600+XP. I managed to hit 8590 in a three test loop benchmark, all settings at default. Not bad considering the processor.

I then installed XP with the Upgrade install. Reinstalled all drivers again. Ran 3DMark2001 again. Scored a measely 6325 in the same test. Sure not doing a clean install of XP had a little to do with it, but not enough to cause a 2,000 point difference.

The "latest and greatest" ... latest, yes. Greatest... I dont think so...
Yeah its got the biggest driver database Windows has sported so far.... whoopie do. Come on BILL get it together!!!!

Sorry about the

But, I do disagree with 98SE being better than ME. Theres nothing more annoying than 98s constant blue screens of death and "illegal opertion" warnings. Other than ME not having these, ME having a much larger driver database, and a System Restore, I really dont see that much difference between the two.

Microsoft is stopping support for 98 in June so why bother with it? The only way to get udates will be off a friend who has them on disk.

1.4 gHz only eh... sheesh.. i don't even have a 1 gig processor yet...

i like the XP interface... and my old games work with them oddly... my 98 SE must have been screwed up pretty bad...

I wonder though on why I am trying to install an OS into my HD it stops at a certain point... and this happens to my old HD... the new one went fine..
