I wish someone had told me that "don't set your virtual memory to 0 with less than 256mg ram" when I had my last machine...lol.

I was running 98se with 64mg ram, and after reading an article in a magazine about how to defrag the swap file, I did it. There wasn't enough memory to boot It took me an hour to figure out. The next month's issue said, "for those who experienced problems with our defragging instructions for virtual memory, we forgot to mention..."

My min/max values for virtual memory are both 512 based on my 256mg ram, and my Norton System works defrags the virtual memory area for me, so I'm in good shape.

All I have to do is crack the case tomorrow afternoon to install the new card. I'm dying to do it tonight, but I have to work late and be in early in the morning. By afternoon, the sweat will be rolling down my forhead, and (hopefully) by evening I'll be enjoying amazing graphics!

Yep, learned that lesson the hard way myself! LOL! We probably read the same article. Good luck with the install. I went from a GF2MX to a GF4ti4600 and wow! I run most of my games at 1600 X 1200 with high end visual effects without a hitch and it looks great!

Here's another question for you.

I'm going to use my old GeForce 2 card to upgrade my son's HP. He's running a onboard card now. Beyond removing the drivers for the old card on his computer, is there anything specific I need to know about how to disable that onboard card?

I figure if I can't physically remove it, then I'll have diable it somehow, so I won't get the new device found message everytime it boots. Is that right?

Disabling them in the device manager ought to do the trick. I had a *insert bad word here* of a time installing a soundcard in my old computer, a packard bell. I had to let the onboard sound card stay active when I used my old Soundblaster card. It didn´t matter that I didn´t use it. It still had to be on...

Remove the drivers for the onboard video in safe made. First off, make sure there's an AGP slot available in the HP. Some computers with onboard video don't have an AGP slot. Once the old drivers are installed pop in the new card and that should pretty much take care of it. Check the BIOS though, there may be an option for which card to initialize first, but most will just boot up from the add in card.

Thanks!

The good news is, if it won't work in my son's computer, my friend is going to buy it

Check thru the bios carefully the onboard sound settings on my MoBo were well camoflaged so they may hide the video as well
