I'll have to agree with that, from what I've seen of FF8, 9 and 10 their characters just aren't as cool. And from what I've seen of Tidus(The main character of FF9 or 10, right?) he looks so awful that I'd never even contemplate getting the game just because I'd have to play as him.

I've just bought Final Fantasy X and played about seven hours and boy that sphere grid is bloody complicated, I've played Final Fantasy 7,8,9 and I never had any problems with the system but in this one I just don't get it (although I think I'm beginning to get the hang of it). Because of this rather complicated system I'd start with either 7 or 9. The materia system in seven is fairly straight forward and the system of learning abilites from equiped items in 9 is very straight forward. Out of the ones I've played so far I've enjoyed seven and nine the most so I'd start with either one then if you have a playstation 2 buy ten.

play 7 and 8, although I've never played 10, but try it anyway.

DO NOT, remember, NEVER EVER touch FF9, because ot sucks. it is boring, and it is unimaginative. it is just a reutilized engine with a different story. trust me on this one, it sucks

I lvled to 70 (easily) in disc 1 on top of the whatyacall it kingdom, fighting the birds, then dragons. and had I not done that, the game would be mindless anyway. there is no twist, no accomplishment, no sense of the vastness that FF8 and FF7 were both able to provide which, as far as I see, is the prime importance of FF games.

I liked FF9 so it just goes to show people will always have different opinions.

Never liked any of the FF games. Anime puts me off most of the time, and it's doubly off-putting when non-Westerners try to imitate Western-based fantasy concepts, characters and settings. It just doesn't feel authentic. I would have far preferred they did games set in medieval Japan -- after all, only the French can do authentic French cuisine and only the Chinese can do genuine Chinese cuisine. The total lack of a common storyline running through the games doesn't help either. (Compare the games Heretic, Hexen and Hexen II.) Well, perhaps I'd be more forgiving towards the games if they could allow you as much freedom, and be as editable as, say, Morrowind. But no.

Just MY opinions, okay?

I found the Sphere Grid to be pretty fun actually! Takes a while to get the hang of, and poor planning can lead you to dead ends later on, or make your character develop in a different way than you intended, but it is extremely flexible, and doesnt really take that much to get used to.
Oh yeah Neb, Tidus (FFX main character) might look..odd..but people played FF9 where Zidane had a tail, FF8 where Squall wore something of a Manson-ish feather boa around his neck, and FF7 where Cloud wears purple overalls and..thats it.. Personally I like the way Tidus looks. They got almost everything right in FFX, from the way the characters move and speak, which convey exactly what they were meant to be (Tidus as fast and hyperactive, as opposed to Auron's stoicism). You really UNDERSTOOD the characters in FFX, and felt more deeply for them because of the way they were voiced and acted. In terms of presentation of their ideas, feelings and themes, Squaresoft got everything spot on. The only gripe I have is with Yuna's voice, which sounds hurried, soft and rather forced. It just doesnt flow, like the person who voiced here didnt speak English as a first language.

Cloud? Purple overalls? Were you doing shrooms while playing that game? I remember no purple overalls for Cloud They certainly weren't noticeable.

Can't see what's wrong with a tail, either. Tidus just looked to me, in the pic that I saw, like he had an IQ of 70.
