If an assailant is confronting you WITHOUT a gun, scatter some loose bills on the ground in front of him and retreat. Most will go for the bills and give you time to escape.
I don't like to carry weopons. Friend of mine got caught carrying a switch while drunk, and spent the night with PC Plod down at Soho Station.
I especially refuse to carrying a gun. Those things kill people, and whether in self-defense or not, you WILL go down for it. Plus, I'd feel strange carrying one to a club where I'm supposed to have FUN.

God, blood is hard to wash out.
All you need to get the blood out is powdered meat tenderizer from the grocery store. Just wet the spots where the blood is and the sprinkle it on. You have to let it set for an hour or so , but then you can just wash the sheets like normal. It will break up the blood without bleaching the sheet.I use it all the time on my clothes.I work as a chef and on the days where I have to play butcher I end up looking like something from a horror movie.
