Actually there are three versions of XP. The public versions are Professional and Home versions. In Australia the difference is about $300 in price. Professional has more features.

In the US there is also a Corporate version. My brother works for Comp USA as a tech and told me that the Corporate version has even more stuff on it than Pro. Also with the Corporate version you dont have to enter serial numbers on install.

Sorry Earthdog, I didn't know that! I've only ever seen professional! I guess I can't comment on the home version as I have never seen it!

I upgraded ME to Xp home about a week ago, sofar my only problem is that it seems to have slowed down alot; which is, in my experience, typical of an upgrade... it takes a week or two to settle in
The only compatibility issues I`ve had I had with ME

Aviendha, I havent ever actually seen anyone that owns the Home version either. I know it goes for about $475 and the Pro version fors for Right at $800. Id be afraid to think of how much the Corporate version sells for.

Yes Bahamut, 256 meg of ram is a good start. I highly recommend going with as much as you can get. 384 or 512 or even more would be better.
My wife had it on her computer with 192meg on a Duron 800 and it ran slow anyway, but that could have been the motherboard. She doesnt have the best motherboard in the world. Same with my sons computer. I had 640 meg of ram and it ran alright but it kept crashing due to the hardware and drivers not being signed by Microsoft.

I refuse to buy new hardware just to run XP. Ill go to Windows 95 before that happens. My DVD rom was ok. The problem was either in my TV tuner card or my DVD Decoder card. Or one of the 100 programs that I installed.

Either way. I got sick of having to reinstall XP when it crashed. After 3 weeks I gave up completely and went back to ME. Not a problem since.

Visually XP is a beautiful program. As far as seeing anything special besides the looks of it, well I didnt see anything all theat great about it. It had a couple features that were nice but I never had a chance to really explore them before I started having big problems.

I thought the Voice Recognition would have been cool. I never found out if you could say "Computer, open NHL 2002." Like in Star Trek.
