As mentioned earlier they have a large modern military and are one of the economic powerhouses of the world. If China deserves a seat on the council then Japan certainly does.
would everyone please read between the lines. Shamrock_UK has already mentioned the reason....

"The Japanese decision to allocate gas drilling rights in a long-disputed territory this week after decades of holding back tells me that the Japanese are deliberately being provocative" (quote)

You think that the Chinese government would let people demonstrate without it being in the national interest?

The fact is that China AND Japan have sad history is not different from most countries, the fact that they choose to play down and not confront there past allows such actions. The moral? All nations should confront there past partly because it is the right thing to do but also that the issue can never be used against you in the future

And as the price of natural commodities rise prepare to see much more of this rubbish in the future.

Why? Does this mean Koizumi will stop visiting the WW2 shrine?

Why should Koizumi stop going to shrine for the war dead? Has anybody ever heard of Bittburg(sp?) cemetary?

Nope, what is it?

Kakero: I've no idea why. I guess he wanted to make a public gesture.

And that WW2 shrine isn't so much a cemetary as a propoganda weapon. The BBC went round there with cameras and reported on the content and it paints WW2 as being Japan fighting against Western Imperialism and aggression.

Nobody is stopping him from honouring the dead of his country, but making a public visit to something like this is akin to the German President going to a holocaust denial exhibition.

To other country especially China or South Korea. The shrine is nothing but glorifying war criminals. That's why they get a bit surly whenever Koizumi visit that place.
