To a large degree, that is true. Voter apathy has been a national problem for many years. The 2000 election saw a change in that trend and I believe it will be even less of an issue this year and that we WILL see voters turn out in RECORD numbers. That is because Americans of every stripe (and especially the young voters that Mr. Kyle likes to be so condescending towards) have finally realized that they CAN and DO make a difference.
Amen brother - I have cut all political implication from my answer to affirm that in what you have said, we truly find grounds for agreement .

Coming from a country where voting is compulsory, there is a lot less of the thinking of "am I going to vote this year" and a whole lot more of the "which of these 2 career politicians (ie liers and swindlers) least deserves me registering my vote against them".

At least I can usually be assured that our leader has been endorsed with the votes of at least 48% of the populace. In the US, if voter turnout is 40% and the right states give the electoral college support, it is possible to win office with less than a 20% endorsement of the public. Contrary to title article by Rush Limbaugh Jr, voting is a right of the people that is to be cherished and EXERCISED. If people stop being interested in having their say then governments get uninterested in having elections.

It's real easy, and you don't even need a link. Liberals are smarter, that's all. When someone gains more education, they get smarter, and become a liberal.

Actually TL...I was thinking along the lines....that the longer the person hides within the halls of acedemia and avoids REAL life, the less wisdom and experience they gain...ensuring that they fall into the trap of liberalism.

Either way, it tends to be true. It can't be a coincidence that tbe majority professors in institutes of higher learning tend to be heavily liberal.

I think it's pretty obvious why it's true. Higher education challenges your ideas. Before you learn (in college) what communism is, it's just something you know is *bad.* In college you learn what it really is, and can then decide for yourself if it is really *bad.* Before college, your only bible studies are in church -- in college you break the bible apart and analyze it as a book. College teaches you that there are arguments against most ideas.

Higher education challenges your learning up to that time. Some come away still having the same basic beliefs, but many do not.

I'm not saying liberals don't hold to some conservative beliefs, and I'm not saying that all conservative thought is not derived from higher learning. I'm just saying that some of the core differences are things that get fleshed out by academia.

That would be very true...IF the people teaching in higer education venues were not already biased they have already fallen and succumbed to liberalism...in general theirs is knowledge with no real experience in life...too many educators have never been anything else, have never experienced anything other than academia.
It's kind of like that snake that keeps eating it's tail.

Edit: note: I did admit that this is a generalization.

I agree with Magik's reasoning. It's easy to envision a "perfect world" when you're not part of it.

For example: Communism should work, but in the real world, it doesn't.

Academics are part of the real world just like anybody else. Sure, there are some real fanatics out there hellbent on proving their ideology, but those are not limited to academia.
