So on one hand we have unemployment, and on the other we have underemployment. The facts and circumstances presented in the original article do not suggest the rosy picture painted by other recent economic indicators. When it comes to jobs, it seems that quality is just as important as quantity or the standard of living simply erodes.

skywalker- No worries my friend! I spent 6 months of 2003 unemployed and I am currently considerably underemployed compared to my position and wage a year ago. So I know how it goes. Good luck in your search and keep your chin up!

Chewy, you pinned it. Our collective wages may pale next to others or even seem close to poverty (in some areas of the US, they are!) but we have all the gadgets and what-nots we want. We can easily afford all we consider to be wants (except that acreage of timber in the midst of nowhere ) and certainly all the needs are covered.

I have never found US unemployment stats to be enlightening, true or even interesting. Kind of like the testing procedures in public schools: they don't test how much the kids know. They test what the teachers have taught the kids in order to pass a certain set of tests.

Would the real US unemployment please stand up.
And put one of those fingers on each hand up.
And be proud to be outta your mind and outta control and one more time, how does it go?
I'm US unemployment
Yes, the real US unemployment
And all the other US unemployment
are just for the enjoyment...
