Is there a school to go to so that I can learn how to play a mage? Apparently, I suck at mages. But, I don't get it. I mean you only have like 3-4 spells per level to memorize. And if your opponent has a +anything weapon you better cast prot from mag weapons or you are squashed, stoneskin ain't gonna cut it. From my exp, mages suck. But tell me where I'm wrong... tell what I need to cast in the variety of circumstnaces. How do you get past that damn casting delay of 1/round? You know you go cast and wait and wait and oops get hit -20 hps, wait and wait and start casting and oops get hit -15 hps, opps lost my spell.... I'd like to learn how to really really play a mage, if you got some help, I've got some in two weeks to play bg2 (finals will be over).

That alone will handle most situations and allow you to cast off your offensive spells. Use hit and run tactics, do not stand still for your enemy to hit you. Make use of summons to distract the enemy. Level 8-9, use Greater Malison + Emotion to KO the enemy. Level 12, Death Spell kills most of the enemies in SoA instantaneously, and has a large area of effect too. The pinnacle moment for Mages/Sorcerers is level 15. Skeleton Warriors baby. ![]() The next pinnacle moment for M/S is level 18. Time Stop and Improved Alacrity baby. ![]() Ideal weapons include Melf's Minute Meteors. Plentiful, accurate, and damn fast. There is more, but these are basics of spellcasting in BG2 that you should make full use of. Good luck, have fun! |

A high level fighter dualed to a thief was very good. With the ToB "Use any item" bonus he had an AC of -9 with fighter weapons and dual weilded two very damaging swords...both Katanas...you DO NOT want to p*** off someone dual weilding katanas....
A helf-elven fighter using a two handed sword was my first char but she wasn't very good in the end....

There are so many great weapons in ToB that anyone using any of them is quite powerful. One of my personal faves is K'logarath, just because it's a throwing axe with Wing Buffet. yay.
