If you wanna be a boxing champ, you can. If you wanna cheat at armwrestling, be my guest. If you wanna outsmart a radscorpion, here's your chance! If you wanna collect dirty magazines, what are you waiting for? If you wanna encounter a Star Trek away team, look no further. We'll spare you all the rest of the juicy details, because this is only the tip of the iceberg.

ADD] Did I mention that nobody is "plot-vital" in FO2 save your own villagers? Even then, the developers did not cop out. They anticipated that the gamer would try to massarce their own villagers, and scripted appropriate dialogues and gave a proper ending for it (YES, it is considered an alternative ending).
In one game, I killed every mother, father, son, daughter and sentient/non-sentient creature I could find except my own villagers. Be the person be a thug or saint, he/she/it ate cold steel through the extreme usage of Bozars and Vindicators (with Plasma Grenades and Mega Power Fists thrown in for fun). NPCs? What fortunate joy it was that the game developers allowed you to kill them creatively. ![]() Of course... you can go about doing it the smart and sneaky way. ![]() Oh yeah. If you kill a shopkeeper, you get what's in his/her store. Unlike BG2 where shopkeepers seem to store their inventory in hammerspace. I could go on and on about how much I like Fallout 2... but it would be hard to extol some of its' virtues without starting to spoil too much. |

Just started playing Fallout: Tactics last night. Despite critics the game is really good, it is not a Role Playing game, well actually that is debatable as you are role playing soldiers and the best way to take down the enemy. OK so there is very little dialogue but for Tactical combat it is not necessary. You get your missions and do them. Just finished the first mission, and I will describe one of my favorite battles or slaughter in this case.
A lone enemy, a raider is in a guard house, which is basically sand bags with a roof over it. I can't have any of my guys run across the field without getting severely hit by this guard. So I use my stealth skill and have every one crawl along on their bellies (Yes, one of the great things about tactics is you can place your characters in standing, crouched, or lying) up to the guard house. Then I positioned them around three sides of the sand bags. When they were positioned I had them stand up and blast away. Very Nice!!!! Poor raider didn't stand a chance!!!! With standing, crouched, or lying tactics you can jump up from behind crates shoot the enemy and jump back down for cover. The final battle was pretty intense as I had no choice but to go in as the raiders are to smart to give chase and walk into an ambush. I was up on the roof of the bulding with two holes but could not see anyone so came back down. It may have been possible to place two snipers up here and have one person go in to drag them out a bit. Maybe next time. Other things you can do are climb on guard towers to snipe at people below. After getting past the first round I now have a slew of characters with a varying degree of skills to chose from including driving vehicles, and I can build a party of six. Have not driven or found any vehicles yet but sounds sweet. [ 12-15-2003, 11:18 AM: Message edited by: pritchke ] |

If you like tactical combat I can recommend wizardry 8 where each of your decisions can be important.

Indeed I have, and its name is Fallout 2! I'm slowly getting used to the different combat system... and the fact that I'm level 1 all of a sudden. From the looks of it, this game has more replayability value from BG2!
![]() I also think I've encountered my first bug. ![]() And yes, my game is patched. |

Ehm, when youre in the square where klamath is, you need to click in the green triangle. The red buttons are auto-pilots to get to places.

Strange - in order to get into Arroyo, clicking the triangle doesn't work - I had to press the red button (not the auto-pilot one, the "Town|World" one in the down right corner of the screen)... well, the good thing is that clicking the triangle does indeed get me into Klamath, so thanks, Zuvio. I'm having a blast so far--the only thing I regret is that I chose "Finesse" as a trait, hopefully it'll work better later on. Gifted rocks, though, and so does Unarmed (though I also tagged Small Guns for the late-game). [ 12-19-2003, 01:15 PM: Message edited by: Alson ] |
