Then, after a quicksave, we dropped it in Bruma.

and

Ended up giving the item away to a merchant and hoping it would disappear as all other sold items do...and it did.

Ilander, those weird looking yellow cubes are exactly like what you get to see when you have a few conflicting plugins in Morrowind. It's totally messed up, that's for sure.

The conflict exclaimation is usually the result of incorrect placement of graphics files in the data files subfolder. (At least, most of the time anyway. In my morrowind game, somehow all the imperial silver cuirasses ended up as the big bad jelly cubes.)

Are you running mods?
