ruby stands, staring, searching, nervously biting her lower lip. her hand rests in her companions mane, comfortably, quite familiar. when she sees brendan approach and speak she ceases biting her lip.

startled by the stranger behind brendan her hand grips the mane of her lion. she speaks up quickly, "i too have come to help. wyrd," she gestures to the lion, "and i have been drawn here. we feel it is our destiny to take part."

ooc: wyrd is pronounced weird. wyrd is the blank rune in fortune telling and links the questioner to his/her real fate.

Brendon Grey

Brendon nearly jumps out of his skin...

"Ahhh!!"

Turning around to see the guy behind him, he says...

"Dude! Cool it with the sneaking up on people! I...I am Brendon Grey...a character come forth from the Neverwinter Nights Forum in search of more adventure. I am having some trouble with that new patch and cannot enter the hak pack world that I was living in..so here I am! After reading the history of this forum, I decided to join up on the party that was setting out to battle this Hunger that had been left behind by the Storm guy."

Turning his head to hear the lady speak then for the first time seeing the lion beside her, he nervously put in a

"N.n.nice kitty...!"

Then to nobody specific...he finally asks...

"So...who leads this group?"

ooc: Let’s put that treehouse to some good use, Larry

Myron Epimetheus

Without having missed a step his shuffling gait finds itself on the soil of a new thread and from out of their sunken sockets his colorless eyes quickly scan the area, ignoring the young man standing near the plank with the crude words written upon it and barely noticing the others who have begun to arrive. His eyes fix themselves rather upon the rather large and derelict dwelling within the branches of the great tree. “Yes, yes,” he mutters, “I believe that a space such as that will do nicely. It is important to have a good space within which to read and to think and a space such as that looks to be a very good space for the reading of words and the thinking of thoughts.” His mutterings change in tone and as he shuffles over to the base of the tree the little man begins to rise above the ground, his feet nervously shuffling all the while. He continues to mutter in this very old language until he rises upward through the hole in the floor where there had once been a sturdy trapdoor and once his feet stand upon the rotting planks of the floor his mutterings return to their usual tones.

“If only there weren’t always so much to do just so one could think!” he exclaims softly. “Always there is doing when one needs to be thinking. There is little enough time as it is for the thinking of the things that need to be thought without the need to be doing things that one shouldn’t need to be doing.” He reaches into the copious folds of his robe and begins to withdraw a number of small objects – bits of wood and string, a few scraps of cloth and a handful of pieces of metal.

OOC: Dantes is nearby in the shadows of the branches of a large tree watching what is unfolding, without making his presence know for the time being.

Brendon

Rather worried, but letting his curiosity the win over better judgement, Brendon dared to interupt the old man talking to himslef in the tree...

"Excuse me sir...but...I don't think I know you. Are you hear to travel with this group to combat the Hunger that terrorizes the land?"

You may join with me, I have little knowledge of how we would defeat such a being as this hunger, but I have spoken to Dantes and a gnome he was conferring with, and it seemed best to start where the mage was finished, my sword arm is weaker than when I fought the mage, but my mind is somewhat keener, and I plan to use whatever means are within my power to contain, if we cannot destroy this monstrosity.

*nodding to Ruby and Wyrd he says* "I welcome you, I hope you will not prove a burden, listen to what the beast tells you, their senses are often sharper than our own, and it could mean the difference between life and death.

Brendon Grey

Brendon turned to hear and acknowledge that he was listening to Morgeruat's welcome to the company, then turned to the strange man in the tree that was possibly ignoring him. He was still muttering to himself.

OOC>>>Hey Morgy! You spelled your own name wrong in your signature! I will never learn how to spell it if you keep confusing me!!

OOC: lol, actually the pally's name is Sir Morguerat (as in Morgue Rat), my name is Morgeruat (it all goes back to a spelling error I made when I signed up, but was too lazy to correct and start my post count over)

ruby appears cowed by sir morguerats soft admonishment. her lip biting begins again, and it seems she may not speak aloud again for sometime. she looks down at her feet and starts petting wyrd nervously. the lion doesn't seem to mind and keeps his head up looking at the strangers. almost as if to tell them, "she's my human, my friend. i don;t trust you."

(OOC: it looks like I’m the de facto leader here, although I would be much more comfortable as an advisor, letting Brendon assume the lead, using my knowledge of both the mod mage’s valley, and the hunger-what little I know of it.)

IC: Looking at Zachary, Morguerat chuckles softly then says, “If glory is what you seek here you may indeed find it, however you’re more likely to find death, and eternal damnation for your efforts, as poor a compensation as it may seem for valiant acts that follow your god’s edicts. The beast we hunt devours more than just magical energy, and after the backlash it caused the Mod Mage while I served him ** shudder ** you’d be better off running in terror, if the Hunger can devour the power of the one ring then I cannot imagine that it would let the soul of a hero invading it escape. I also heard of a mage who tried battling with it in the hills near the tower, his body was never found, but I do not doubt that he was a snack for the creature we pursue.

The former paladin introduces himself to the mysterious giant dwarf, as Sir Morguerat formerly of Keldorns Order, before it fell to the Mod Mages power and it’s own inner corruption,” I served the Mad Modding Mage as a general for a short time, a charade to weaken his army from within, my plan worked but I paid a high price, I would do it again, that is for certain, but I wager few others would be so inclined, knowing the price for success.

Smiling broadly at the beastmaster Morguerat touches her consciousness briefly while conversing with the others, I know you would never allow harm to come to your Lion, and know I feel the same, my horse Clonin and I have a similar bond, although he is no longer my mount as a knight he serves as my familiar now. No need to be shocked, I learned a few minor psychic talents from Neb while serving the mod mage, and my previous sword enhances those talents one possesses as well as granting others completely beyond the reach of most normal men. The sword will no longer work for me, so it is yours if you like, it may sense your purity of spirit and respond to you.

(OOC: the sword is a +5 holy avenger, however it only affects psionics, making the weilder immune to psionic attacks, and granting several powers, teleportation, and dimension door among them, many are not explored, so feel free to expound on it yourself, in the hands of a lawful good character – that is not a paladin it serves as a +2 two handed sword, but shrinks down to a shortsword when it touches Ruby’s hand—another unexplored property)
