The souldrinker on Ascension Peak, who kills half your party outright and turncoats the other half.

I agree with juggernauts - you meet them often, fighting takes a long(!) time and is boring... one of the reasons why i would really like to try deathwish or something similar (haven't had a caster with level 7 spells yet)!
2nd worst are these stone crabs - a good reason to have someone with critical strike. [ 05-14-2004, 03:43 PM: Message edited by: killerTeddy ] |

There are many critters I don't like, although the level you are at can determine the hassle factor. For example, the multiple attacks of millipedes drive me crazy but if I have a decent area spell like fireball they are gone in a round or two. Saying this, Juggernauts are avoided early on but by lev 10 or so I invite them to attack me (usually in a safe defensible location). This is because the battles are so long you can really build your combat and magic stats compared to most battles. By the time I get to Rynjin, Rift or AP I don't get too many beasties that raise the hackles. Even Souldrinker and Nessie are mere annoyances. If I try to get through the Mountain Wilderness or its dungeon at lev 12 I expect hard battles. Depends on how you play and when you get there!

Juggernauts, any kind of plants.
Worst of all, wasps. Good XP in the beginning, but they are everywhere... everywhere!! |

Dont wasps not have a low fire resistance?
nothing a few fireballs wouldnt take care of. Personally i dislike any creatures that dont move up close and personal... i like THEM comming to me so my chars with short range weapons can beat them. those scorchers and crabs that stop at extended range are annoying.

Tie between psi sharks and unicorn/dreadmares, they avoid getting close, are darn hard to silence too.
Unicorn types eventually can be paralyzed - then I prefer the others to run away. Unicorns also can be hurt with eye for an eye - while psi sharks have very high resistance to the spells they use - so eye for an eye is not so handy. But psi sharks often get within range of a tripleshot crossbow, and some hunter quarrls will eventually knock them out so I can get close enough to clobber 'em. Don used to annoy me, but recently he shocked me by dying in round two of a Death cloud (which I just bought from him). Tiny can be worth the money sometimes to have as an ally - otherwise I've always just ran for it (although on occasion I've waited till red dots close in before approaching - Tiny will ally if no discussion of fee has occurred - and I just run off and leave him with the baddies...

I got to look forward to running into parties of Juggernauts (say 8 or 9 at a time) in quick succession along the Arnika-Trynton Road. Especially when I could get into one of those nooks and wipe em out in a single file line. Hehehe. I just had a Bard paralyze most of them and wacked em.
My LEAST favorite were, as seems to be a general concensus, the Unicorns. I managed to destroy a few Crystal and Adamant Unicorns by running up directly in front of them and hitting first, but I found that the Dreadmares were the most likely to rear and turn half my party against me. I started running away from them in the Swamp. Someone mentioned problems with the Rapax Rift when they were trying to get the Staff of Ash from the fire cage. The first time I tried it, I too found that there were Samurais on the bridge above me. I finally hid under the bridge before they saw me, and rested (fortunately, nothing else spawned in to disturb my rest period). When I rested and left the cover of the bridge, all the Samurai were gone and I only had to face the Lava Lord and a couple minions. My Faerie Ninja paralyzed him with the Cane of Corpus and I whittled him down in short order. |

Sometimes you can get a lucky hit on the Lava Lord and paralyze or knock him out before he spawns. I sometimes run up to him to attack, other times I use Elemental Shield first.
If there are too many guys on the bridge, I reload and rest. Who wants to waste 20 minutes dodging arrows and taking spell damage?

OK, you brought up those opponents on bridges. What is annoying about them (also when I'm on bridge and they are below) is inablilty to direct 'area' spells (eg;fireball) and 'proximity' spells (eg;shrill sound) - at least Silence and Freeze spells don't need to be aimed...

I agree with whoever it was in a similar thread sometime ago, and that was that the least favourite creatures are Higardi, Trynnie and Umpani patrols. Yes, I know they help low end parties while they are still weak but facing hordes of various plants and seekers, with Trynnies getting in the way is so irritable when your party doesn't actually need the help.
Don't get me started on battles where the Umpani base troopers join in, that does make me tear my hair out. You have time to read 'War and Peace' while waiting for your move. |
