Yes, I know. Call me crazy, but part of the RPing for me is letting the NPCs come and go according to their whims. It's actually one of the things I *really* like about Wiz8 - they have agendas of their own that don't always coincide with yours.

Thanks for the input, I had thought I decided to leave my ranger at home and pick up Sparkle, but I infer from your comments that she cannot be depended on as a full time party member. I've decided I want a ranger, if Sparkle will stick around I'll take another spell caster, if not I'll take my own ranger. So just how much of the game can I depend on her for?

I used her for the whole game.
There are area that she won't enter at wil, but there are workarounds for that.
However, in this areas she is like hexxed (-20 penalty to all stats and skills). Doesn't hurt that much for a ranger IMHO.

a ranger method i've used to great effect is starting them out as a Alchemist, then switching over to ranger. very effective and helping out with spells early on, and once they get back up to lvl 5 ranger, they start with much better casting skills, as the Alch/ranger ones are some of the most difficult to work up.

Sounds good. I did that with my last Samurai, starting her as a mage and switching very early on. If you want them to be able to have some magical punch earlier, it really helps.
