Worst NPC ever?

I hate Cernd. Useless idiot. Are all druisds this bad?
Nalia is weak.
I like Haer dalis even if he isn't worth much. I keep him for story reasons

A druid can be quite powerful. Its major disadvantage is that it stops leveling at 14...I'm not sure why druids were implemented that way. I like 'em, and hope they can level farther in ToB.

There's no such thing as a useless NPC. It's all a question of how you deploy them; there are effective tactics for any class or combination of classes.
That being said, my most non-essential character is - ug - my main character. I picked an archer; I generally try to keep him in back and snipe, safely out of the fray. He actually doesn't fit my preferred tactics very well, so I just concentrate on keeping him alive so I don't have to reload. I'd like to trade him in for another character, but I'm too stubborn and will play through the game with him.
If all else fails, NPC's have less heroic uses. There's always a place for pack mules, cannon fodder, practice targets, and subjects to test that new spell your mage learned.

TOP 16:

1. Jaheira - awesome, great spells(ironskin&fire elemental),awesome staff, great personality, & rockin'storyline.
2. Korgan - best warrior, only dwarf(my favorit race!),& not bad for being evil.
3. Edwin - greatest spellslinger,& entersting way to gain his services again.
4. Keldorn - awesome special abilities,holy avenger, but made poor choice in murdering his wife's lover after he abandoned her. Tsk!Tsk!
5. Nalia - very deep storyline,good wizard,should have been love enterest.
6. Anomen - great combination character,low wis is not as big deal as some think,however he does need help in the whining department.
7. Viconia - great wis,mr big +, low hp sucks, & story should be better.
8. Minsc - wannabe ranger who shouldn't be one due to low stats, greater fighter,but much improved from bg1.
9. Imoen - as good a mage as Nalia & betterthief,greatest weakness is how late you get her which hurts her exp total.
10. Mazzy - good paladin-type character,good story with shadow keep plot.
11. Jan - only thief that can still raise his level throughout the game and not leave.
12. Valygar - good second choice for ranger fans,but sucks you are forced to kill him if you don't want him in your party but still go to sphere.
13. Yoshimo - awesome thief espicially with celistial fury,sucks you lose him.
14. Aerie - good at both her classes, sucky hp, such a crybaby.
15. Haer'Dalis - only bard,good story surrounding him and his troupe, but low hp hurt,& speech sucks too.
16. Cernd - single class character limited to only 14thL.

The reason Druids can only go up to 14th level is because of the 2nd Edition AD&D rules, at that point they are considered a Grand Druid (Hence the grove) the next level is Hierophant, which is the strongest Druid in the world, if they took it there they would add WAY to many politics to the game, hence why I have never really heard of very many pnp groups that have high level druids (unless they actually have people who are rabid pitbulls). Someone mentioned this earlier but no character is useless as long as you use them right, don't put mages on the front line, ever. Valygar kicks ass (rearrange some proficiencies with Shadow Keeper and make him truly insane). Anomen's wis sucks at first, but you can get it to improve to a decent level if you play his story long enough ( and make the right decisions). Keldorn killing his wife is something the player causes, you can talk him out of it. I have played a few games with Nalia and have not regretted it, she takes the place as a back up mage and replaces Imoen as my archer (thieves suck at fighting). And even though I never keep Cern when I have used him he seemed to be decent, just used Ironskin for his AC give him an ioun stone and transform him and you have a rockin NPC.

i think yoshimo and cernd are the worst.. i used yoshi until i got nalia and i kicked his butt out of party... for cernd, i didnt use him, cuz jahiera was a better druid

Volourn...Keldorn didn't have to murder his wife! He could have sorted it all out and returned to her. The guy who is having an "affair" is only pretending to get the family back togeter!
I my opinion Aerie..but plot wise she is the best so she's in my party...as a PALADIN..lol
