I cringed at the first movie, but the second one has restored some of my faith in the possibility of transferring the essence of the book to the big screen. Mind you, the movie has nothing on the book, but it is faithful and tries to squeeze in as much as it can, and that is commendable.

I ponder how they plan to do the fourth book though... by my estimates, it will be almost 6 hours long, were we to use the time:page ratio for the first two movies.

Anyway, if you like movie, make sure you read the book as well. There is a whole lot more going on than what the movie shows.

Snappier direction. The HP series needs snappy directorship. As it is, there seems to be a bit of time lost to unnecessary fluff...

The scene in which the Weasleys use Flue Powder to get to Diagon Alley. There's a couple of minutes as the family gather together in a line, Mrs. W fusses over everyone, and eventually gets everyone ready to travel.

Now, if only the camera would have cut straight from Mrs. W asking Harry 'You've never travelled by Flue Powder before, have you?" RIGHT to Ron yelling "DIAGON ALLEY!" in the fireplace and exploding - and then focussing a bit on Harry's worried face, and the expectant looks on the faces of the W family...

It's only a couple of minutes there. But there's lots of areas where it could ahve been tighter, and they could have squeezed in Percy Weasley's girlfriend and her petrifaction, a bit more on Justin (who just becomes 'that guy from the snake bit')... and ESPECIALLY the scene with Malfoy snr. buying Riddle's book from Knockturn Alley. It would take away some of the contrived feel about the end, I reckon...

Apart from that, cool! 7/10.

I saw it yesterday with some people from my class, we went since it was our last day together and as I didn't see the first film and have never read the books and never really thought much of Harry Potter, except my kid brother likes him, I really liked it, I'd give it 3 stars but 5 if I had been 10...
I liked Moaning Myrtle specially when she was talking about when THREW a BOOK at her...
The onew I didn't like was Dobby... eech that was annoying.

i just saw it yesterday with about 20 friends, we all thought it was pretty good. i personally think it's better than the first movie, but doesn't even compare to the books. *sigh*, that's the problem with making a movie based on a popular book, the movie is almost never better than the written version.

As for the spider scene...My wife was screaming her head off! I was pretty freaked too! Even moreso than with the Basilisk.

I wonder who will play Harry's Godfather ?

Oh...by the way, read this: </font> New Producer for next movie??
I LOVED the spider scene!I then imagined Harry and Ron yelling "YOU EIGHT LEGGED FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKS!" that was frigin hilarious..I like the basilisk, that looked good but some of the special effects were absolute crap, and I expected more when Harry shoved the sword through the basilisk's brain...I liked it though

Went and saw Chamber of Secrets last night and what a disappointment. The movie was as flat as a 2 day old warm can of coke, and just an enjoyable. I hope that the Harry Potter movies do not turn into another Star Trek franchise, with people going to see them just for what they are, nit because they are any good. But I guess HP has as strong a following as ST, so they can churn out a crap movie and still recover their costs.
