In the movie:
The flash backs to Mt. Doom were worth their weight in gold. I love the scene where Elrond tells Isuldur to cast the ring into the fire, and Isuldur just gives him that smirk and walks away (ring in tow). So believe it or not, I like Elrond and Isildur (though their parts were very small). Elrond also came across more like I expect and elf to be (especially one who witnessed mankind at it lowest momment). He comes off with having great honor and he appears to be quite cynical of present day matters. He actually looked like he could take the battlefield himself if he needed (in the book I thought him more like watered down version of Gandalf). I also liked Boromir in the movie. He didnt come across as being as much of a jerk than he did in the book in my opinion. All the others were pretty much what I expected. In the books I didnt have any particular favorite. I liked all of the characters equally. Just my 2. |

I thought Ian McKellan was excellent as Gandalf, but the truest character was Samwise.

Tuff one between Legolas or Strider. I nominate them both.

Aragorn and Legolas in the movies, and Gandalf close third but in the books well, I'll second Treebeard.
