It seems I'm the only one here who liked the Dragonrealm series by Richard A. Knaak. Of course i like his Dragonlance books too.
Also Weis/Hickman, Salvatore and Greenwood (Forgotten Realms), and of course Tolkien.

Someone above mentioned Tad Williams, If you get the chance read his Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn trilogy. Also, No one seems to have mentioned Simon Green or Dennis McKeirnan (sp). I have just finished the Rhapsody trilogy by Elizabeth Haydon and really enjoyed them.
