be honest I don't know a thing about that. When i first picked up his sci-fi books i tried to keep an eye out for any references to scientology...but in my limited capacity i never found any. Though I admit I know nothing about the pseudo religion, if you can call it that. ![]() [This message has been edited by Djinn Raffo (edited 07-04-2001).] |

Djinn, I'll send you a copy of the essay if I ever finish it
![]() ![]() I did read some Jung, I've always thought in many respects he's much more reasonable than Freud, though the latter gets all the attention and the former is a bit neglected. I still wouldn't use his analyses as a valid literary theory, but I do see some merit in them ![]() My favorite philosophers in that class are probably Gadamer, Lacan, Levi-Strauss and Derrida, probably because they were near impossible to understand ![]() That's exaclty what I liked about them, they leave you with more questions than answers; I mean, their writing style to start with is cryptic and difficult. But the first time I was discussing Gadamar in class and suddenly found out what he was saying, well, it got me hooked! ![]() Hey, thanks again for starting this thread mate, it really is appreciated!! I think it's a great topic, and everybody writes marvelous responses, thanks! ------------------ Melusine, High Queen of Fluffies, Archbabe of the OHF, the LH, the HADB and the SPAE(Society for the Prevention of Acronym Extinction) & Official Entertainer Elf of the BG2 Bar ![]() Your voice is ambrosia Amy Brown Fantasy Art |

Had a look around Lioness!
![]() The Pierce site is pretty cool. Know you dig her writing from the review you wrote on page 1! ![]() the past but not Pierce. I love the fact that our favorite authors or musicians or artists...whatever...are a click away on the net! ![]() Thanks for sharing the links! ![]() |

thanx, guys.
Also Mem, I appreciate what you said in your first review about many females being sex symbols instead of real characters. I totally agree with you on that, which is why, if you want a good female character, check out Tamora Pierce. Her females are smart, strong characters who are not just there for the pleasure of a male lead. ------------------ ![]() Official teaser and ranger of the HADB Clan "Evil round every corner...careful not to step in any."-Minsc "Gimme a sword, I'll win this war for you!"-Mad Martigan |

Well on page one I asked about Juliet McKenna's book "A Thiefs Gamble" which I have finished and will give a review on.
It starts off as you meet Livak, a woman gambler/thief who is blackmailed into work stealing artifacts. Other forces are after the artifacts also and causes conflict between the two powerful groups. McKenna tells a good tale and her world is well put out in terms of politics/history but the main thing I found hard to swallow was the combat sequences, which I found a bit unrealistic. The magic was good but somewhat inconsistant in terms of who should be able to do what (elemental magic). That said I did enjoy the book and bought the sequel. I give it....4 stars, I did like her writing |
