Two questions:

1)What do you say to have him make you the armour?
I don't remember the exact wording of the 'dialogue option', but I'm about 95% sure that HE (the store owner/blacksmith), will immediately engage you in a conversation about that shiny green shell you are humpin' around everywhere, as soon as you click on him to talk.

2)Does the shell count as magical armour?
The shell itself has 'magical properties', atleast I would think so (I mean why else would they be so 'in-demand').

But the shell by itself (unforged) cannot be used or considered as armour, magical or otherwise.

Nonetheless, (and I think this is what you were reffering to) after the Smithy forges your shell into 'Ankheg Plate' then, YES, it is considered 'enchanted armour' and thus prevents you from wearing any other type of enchanted equipment (i.e., 'Ring of Protection +1').

Hope this is what you were asking about.

Don't know but why would you keep the shells for a long time? They are pretty heavy and the added weight prevents you from carrying other stuff.

u sure about that? anyway even if u wer stupid enuf to carry them round for ages (no offense to people who do ) u could just get more. There is an unlimited amount if u just keep searching in the areas where they randomly spawn.

You have to tell him that you wont sell it yet and once you say that then you will have the option of having him make it into armour.
