Luvian, The IceWind Gate 2 project is working on porting BG2 to the IWD2 engine. So you get Bg2 with the IWD2 spell lists, rulesets and all of that nonsense. The Final ToB battle without Timestop and Wish is going to be very interesting.

Details are here:

Damn, they dont have a public beta yet.

Spongebob - it is hard to justify IWD2. Its nowhere near as good as Bg2, and not even as good as it should be. But if you dont insist on comparing it to Bg2, it is fairly good and a lot of fun. Just dont go expecting heavy roleplay or plot choices.
Man! that looks sweet! do you know when it will be done???

In reply to Spongebob, I don't think there are many who would stand up and justify a preference for IWD2 over BG2.
As a previous poster put it well, it's not as good as it could be or even as good as it should be !.
BG2 is better in almost every way. The good parts of IWD2 are character creation and the 3rd ed rules. BG2 with the 3rd ed rules would be the ultimate RPG or not far off.
In IWD2 there was too much difficult combat for me and it was totally one track linear. It was also by far the buggiest BI game I've played with lots of crashes to desktop.

At least when it crashs it goes to the desktop and doesn't freeze your computer worst thing is it usually it occurs in the middle of battle. I have had it crash 3 times so far and am at Chapter 5.
