Imoen Same-Sex Romance - Page 3

About Haer'dalis romance.
I read some interview on the net with one of the designers of the Baldur's Gate, and he said that they were going to have Haer'dalis for second romance for the female character, but they were short on time and in the end they did't include it

Good idea on the conflict with Jahiera. Think how she responded when the Madam at the Copper Coronet propositions her male friend. Hmmm, will work on tht, and share.
The Valygar Romance is being done by someone on th Black Isle boards. Remember someone there commenting on it, but didn't read anything by him/her.
The Imoen Romance would benefit from a "fast rescue," as does the whole game, IMHO. But it's not necessary, because it is "events linked," like TOB, not game time linked. For example, to the party emerging from the Underdark, or entry into Ust'Natha. There are 31 different dialog screens. The first dialog initiates when the party first rests after Bodhi lets you loose in the Spellhold Dungeon. Like in several of the romances, you press the sleep button, and intead of the sleep movie, you get Immie's first dialogue screeen: "Say, (character), since you say that we're going to rest, can I share your bedroll, like we used to in Candlekeep?" My friend is trying to work one in on a timer before that, but it turns out to be hard, and the game crashes if you rest before that timed dialog.

Hmm... only thing I can find to gripe about - and which Whailor touched on a little - is this slight tweak in Irenicus' character that your romance premise seems to hinge upon. I always appreciated the icewater-for-blood, narrow-vision-from-staring-at-his-life's-goal enemy that he represented... something totally removed from Sarevok, our previous enemy, and in some ways far more daunting. What I found truly scary was that I didn't understand him one bit, not even after his defeat. To permit even a small hint of sexual desire or sadism would cheapen this indomitable, wonderfully evil character. Just try your best to do him justice, I'd ask. Apart from that, weeell... it's always a good thing to see some creativity on the boards.

Oh, additional - I remember someone saying to me that all romance activity for the four existing romances is frozen between chapters 4-6 except for your romance partner to remark on the outcome of Phaere's proposition. Out of curiosity, is that innate to the game somehow, or is that just how each romance is written?

Don't worry, Tancred, Irenicus is only mentioned briefly, and the part alluded to was that Irenicus often ended a period of torture by raping her, so I don't think that alters anyone's view of JI. As I see it, that was one of the "dark things, indeed" that JI mentions when he is about to steal your soul. Oh, and Bodhi did it, too. It's not like he was enamoured of poor li'l Immy. Just another torture, like with the Dryads.
Oh, and about the romances, I don't think that's true, 'cause Viconia spoke to me once when we went into Adalon's lair.

Does he torture her? He experiments upon her, and upon you, certainly, and yes it does cause pain, but I don't think he goes so far as to actively torture people.

So I suppose that all those things in "these horrible glass containers
" were just to liven the place a bit ,yes?

Not to mention the collection of knives and scapels that his duergar slaves were making for him.
Not to mention the part that the dryads say to Imoen "He has touched you as has us,hasn't he".The dryads were "his concubines" by the way!
What I think is that Irenicus didn't see as torture.He didn't enjoy doing those things he just did them to promote his own work,his own goal.In my oppinion he remained the cold blooded villian that he was even when commiting atrocities.THAT would make him truly,truly evil.
He saw all this as a means to an end while Imoen on the other hand...

Well, even concerning Imoen he said "Torture? Silly girl, you just don't understand what I'm doing, do you?", with more than a hint of puzzlement.

For Imoen,however,the trials she faced in the hands of Irenicus were the most harrowing experience she ever had.
