Contagion...another method of killing by stat loss?

Granted you'd need to combo a ray of enfeeblement with three contagions to put someone to zero strength. Then again, hit a munchkin fighter with two contagions and it's game over if he's not wearing his circus ring.

Just tried out contagion and while it has a range of 30' when being cast, it fails when placed in spell trigger or chain contingency. Don't know why that would be.

I still don't think this spell is very useful. The slow effect is nice, but it didn't lower Korgan's number of attacks, only his walking speed when tried on him. The stat penalties would knock some damage bonuses off fighters, and thaco bonuses off archers. You might get lucky and have the -2 strength result in a heavily armored enemy becoming overencumbered. On the other hand a successful save negates all effects. Ray of Enfeeblement works better as a strength reducer. Emotion more effectively takes enemies out of a fight if they fail their save, plus it's area effect.

It may be more appealing if you've got an archer kit in your party. Combining the strength penalty effect of their called shot with Enfeeblement or Contagion may get some mages to zero strength before their stoneskins wear off.

I strongly doubt I will ever find a use for Contagion. The fact that it's nearly permanent is practically irrelevant: Since all enemies are dead within a few rounds of turning Hostile to me anyway, what the heck do I care how pretty they are when they're dead? The "permanent until Cure Disease" bit is something that can only apply to the party, so Contagion joins the ranks of spells like Flesh to Stone, Disintegrate, Cone of Cold, etc.--spells that enemies can use, but you can't.

And, on the poll, I only said I memorized Monster Summoning II because there was a time when I used to. Technicalities.

Why Cone of Cold? I found it to be useful in BG II. Well, technically it was with my fighter/mage, but still. The point still stands.

I think it can destroy loot if you happen to kill your enemy with it.

True, and not to mention that it is not party-friendly.

I do use Flesh to Stone and Disintegrate though... I use them on targets that I know will never have non-quest-related loot, such as Trolls, Spiders, etc... Yes, yes, I do realise it is overkill in most cases, but they are pretty cool spells to use, since they petrify and dust enemies respectively.

I am also most probably one of the few advocates of Wail of the Banshee and Power Word:Kill.

Going to let this poll run a few more days before I ultilise the results for further discussion.
