Bought BG because I read rave reviews in PCGamer, and I was really desperate for an AD&D CRPG. Loved it.
Got BG2 from a friend originally, then had to buy another copy because the CDs got gibbled. Thank god for Ebay ![]()

I got hooked on PnP while I was in college, so when I saw a PC game based on the AD&D game, it naturally caught my interest. Unfortunately, I didn't have a home computer at the time.
By the time I bought a PC for the house, BG1&2 were somewhat "old news". I was still interested in getting a copy, but the PC I bought (from my college roommate) had Duke Nuke'em and Doom 1&2 already loaded, so I played those for quite awhile. Then one of my other PnP buddies told me he had an extra copy of Baldur's Gate 1&2 and would let me have them if I was interested. I said "Of course I'm interested". I created a fighter in BG1, played him all the way through and then converted him to a Wizard Slayer in BG2. That is also the only character I've actually finished SoA with so far.

Going way back as a devout RPG fanatic on the C64, I was a fan of the interwoven plots in the highly combat-strategy oriented AD&D goldbox series.
It wasn't long after this that I discovered the wonders of Ultima, purchasing the Ascension Dragon Edition pack. I'm also a sporadic PnP roleplayer too. Yet I'd always wondered what the next AD&D based PC 'paradigm' was going to be like and remember fondly walking the aisles of a Harvey Norman store one day (fellow aussies will know them well,) and walking out with with an odd looking free promotional comic-book entitled 'Baldur's Gate'. It captured my imagination and the title stuck in my mind... I think it was in early May 2001 or so when I was walking with a mate to his house from the local chess club. There, I met one of his housemates who had the original Baldur's Gate. I immediately got talking with him, geekily detailing excitement from what I'd heard about the game, how big the world was, etc. We talked for so long about all things's D&D that he agreed to lend it to me. It was the beginning of quite an obsession. ![]() Six months later, I bought BGII from a local video game rental store called "Dragon's Lair" for $20 AUS. I'm probably one in the minority who didn't enjoy the sequel as much, but having replayed the entire series with both expansions just last year with the same character, I can honestly say I love the two games dearly. Sadly I no longer have the promotional comic book...anyone know what I'm talking about?

I actually won Baldur's Gate 2 in a write in magazine compotition. I had to write up an idea for a new computer game storyline and the the best idea won a selection of games. BG2 was one of them and since I started playing it, I never looked back.

Back when Diablo II first came out, much to my disappointment DII didn't hook me. Then, on the Diablo II Forums I had read somewhere that BGII was a far better sequel than Diablo II. I was looking for Ultima Online in Wal-Mart one day since I had lost the old CD. Well, I couldn't find UO but I didn't want to leave empty handed so I snagged BGII. It also helped that BGII was a D&D game and it had been a long time since I played one on a PC.
This was about 4 or 5 years ago, I think.

First my room-mate had a PC. We'd played CRPG's for years, Eye Of The Beholder, MM, etc. (And D&D back in the day.) One day he came home w/ BG1. We both played it. Then BG2 came and we both played it and still do.
