Hmm... I was thinking more along the lines of "How can my character justify doing this?" and not "Why should I have my character do this?" in this case, supporting Vesselle's roleplaying argument.

Link, it doesn't matter what a DnD newbie would or wouldn't know. His characters would know what carrion crawlers are, and that's what matters.
In reply to the whole Viconia thing: Oh, NG, ok then, nevermind. If you WERE LG, at some point you would have to kill her, or at least kick her out of the party. I won't spoil you as to why, but just trust me, you would.

Well, that and your PC would know that CCs are nasty nasty nasty things that should only be dead.

To tell you the truth, this boils down to what we percieve is evil/good.
At one time or another, certain species of animalia was percieved by the human race to be vicious and beastly. Of course over time, once we developed and learned more about our world, these perceptions have changed. The only animal I can think of right now is the dog. But then again, there are certain animals I still wouldn't take in as a pet, such as a snake, any type of arachnid, scorpion, rats, etc. even though there are many individuals today who do own such animals. Now back to the game. The thing you have to really look at is the scenario the party is in. All of a sudden in some disgusting, fecal matter infested sewer underneath the slums, I run into some old guy with what he claims is his pet. Now this would strike me as quite odd and I also noticed something else beforehand. Prior to even meeting the old man, you run into a hostile Carrion Crawler. Of course you slay the beast and get on with where your going. So now here you come to the old man and his pet who just so happens to be a CC. Now of course I have some type of bias towards this creature. But perhaps the creature felt threatened to my presence, maybe it was scourging for food. I am technically an intruder in HIS lair. + There is no way I know he is possessed. (well I forgot what the voice told me to tell you the truth, if anyone has the exact text then I should of been able to form my final opinion). ++ I started a new game anyway, I have no knowledge of some man in the sewers making sweet love to his CC! Well who controls the laws of magic? Since there are so many gods of Faerun.

Mystra's in charge of magic... though Shar's also established somewhat of a foothold in the magic department.
