Normal make sthe enemies do 75% damage of Core, auto-max hp per levelup, and makes the spells auto-learned. I think.

I typically play on Core, dipping down to Normal for early level ups & to scribe important scrolls (my biggest annoyance being when I forget to move back up). I have played the whole game on Hard & Insane, just to see what it's like (not as fun, IMO).

The MOD's I have currently installed... (um... omg... may be easier to list the ones I *don't* have... I am the self-crowned king of "every NPC under the sun" you know...)

Alassa (NPC), Allison (NPC), Anishai (NPC), aPack (Rogue Rebalancing - most components), Ascension, Azrael (NPC), Banter Pack, Cassius (NPC), Chloe (NPC), Ease of Use (about 60% I'd say), Forgotten Realms, G3Tweaks (about 80%), GBThfKp (Improved Thief Guild - about 80%), Ghareth (NPC), Goo (NPC), Hessa (NPC), Horace (NPC), ItemUpgrade (SoA & ToB), Kelsey (NPC), Kiara_Zaiya (NPC's), Kido (NPC), Krondor (NPC), Mike (NPC), Neh'taniel (NPC), Ninafer (NPC), NPCFlirtPack, Oversight (about 90%), PotionQuest (fun, very minor, slightly buggy - try it out), Redemption (rarely use it, but was fun to see), Reign of Virtue, Solaufein (NPC), Silver Star (NPC), Tactics (about 90%), Tashia (NPC), TLXan (NPC), Tsujatha (NPC), Turnip Golem, Unfinished Business (about 90%), Underrepresented Items (eh...), Valen (NPC), Vanim (NPC)... plus about a half dozen of the Iron MOD'er entries... um... do I win a prize?

Heh... the good news is that they are all compatible with one another, I guess.

As Dundee said, TyranyuZ will be ancient history shortly, so just ignore his rubbish until we can arrange for this to happen. Move on now, nothing to see here.

I always play on core. I tried one of the harder settings once and it was boring. Same tactics for every battle - Lots of protection spells, blast them from a distance with area effect spells, shoot at them until they reach you, fight. Next please.
Generaly, when I want to give myself a challenge, I try to complete the game keeping time (game time, not real time) to a minimum. This means no buffs except for major battles, no spells on easy opponents and no bespoke spell memorisation for tough battles.

I consider the game an interactive (and mighty funny) cartoon and see no point in making it overly difficult for myself so I play with core rules.
When I want to play something hard and challenging I have a go at ADOM (three wins) and Angband (no wins so far).
I play mod free. Sorry, but I don't see the point. Not that I frown at mods or people using them, but I just use my time elsewhere.
If there was a mod out there that cut award XP and restored the original AD&D class tables (max level 30, spell progression, HLAs) I would surely use it. And why haven't anyone made a mod that removes those level 10 spells yet? It contradicts Forgotten Realms completely and is meant for other settings. (After Karsus tried to cast the Avatar spell all spells over level 9 was banned by Mystra - it's a regular eye-sore to see more powerful spells in ToB).
