Six's Solution to Powergamed Stats: Don't touch the + or - buttons when rolling. Yay, no more brain-dead Paladins!
(Although it can lead to powergaming of another sort: When I was rolling stats for my Kensai->Druid, I got a natural roll of 17/18/16/18/14/11. It's at this point that I sat back, heaved a deep sigh, and said, "Okay, screw it. I'm doin' a Kensai->Mage.")
