Make sure he can talk to you. He won't be able to if you have, say, Protection from Undead on.

I had when I attacked him at first. I reasoned that it would be best to do some damage to him while protected and return unprotected and finish his lichform with Daystar before reading the second scroll. He's only given his "i'll reward you allright" speech and he has been Near Death for a long time.

I had the exact same bug, and never found a solution. I went through the Tactics mod with 4 separate parties, and with every single one (and on every single Reload) found his Lich form to be unkillable. In the end, I had to CLUA in a scroll of Shapechange, and his DemiLich form.

Uhh--you do have Tactics, don't you? If you have this bug in the default installation, I can only say that even my computer isn't that buggy.

I do not have Tactics. Currently he's out of spells meaning that it is utterly rediculous. After 5000 points of damage I just decided I as getting older for no reason and added 55k XP, a ring of Gaxx and dropped a SoU plus some potions and pretended he was dead. Cheap and dumb, but there you go. Onwards.
How did you say you managed to trigger him?
