Six i didnt mean Mindflayer lawful good lathander priest.I meaned whit *God* that they aint going hostile to you and then it dosent mather if some illithids or githyankis are in the city if they dount atack.AND the illithids are ambassadors.

mmkay: Deep Gnomes are typically good aligned. Although there are exceptions of course. The evil drow are sworn enemies of deep gnomes and often hold raids on there mining parties. In R.A Salvatore's novels "The Dark Elf Trilogy" series the Gnomes actually take the renagade good aligned drow Drizzt Do'Urden in to their city for a time and he makes one very good friend there...

sorry to double post, but where exactly do i cast freedom to help the mage? i need more specifics than "north of the duergar". i've tried a few times, but he never appears.
Edit: I see what happened now. I kept using Imoen to try and cast the spell, but she always just used the scroll, never actually casting it. i gave it to aerie and it finally worked. sorry i got grumpy, but i want to see what happens next!
