I prefer melee attacks, ranged although it can be effective in certain fights it is for wimps!

This is one of the greater aspects of the game. No one tactic can defeat all battles easier than the rest. That is, magic has advantages here, ranged here and so on.

But I pick magic because I love changing squirels into mad squirels via Polymorph.

Since I can only choose 1, I'll have to say melee. At least 90% of my game is hack & slash. In my current game, even Jan and Nalia turn into substitute Tanks when I want to play around.

There are times, however, when brute force just won't cut it, and that's why I tote the spellcasters along. Today I wandered on up to Draconis and didn't believe how easy it was to kill him. Nalia cast Project Image, and Draconis said, "Oh, crap. I am SO screwed," and plunged a knife into his heart.

My current party is me (Blade), Minsc, Anomen, Jaheira, Jan & Nalia. Note that even my Tanks are all spellcasters (if you count Doom and Armor of Faith, which I do).
