After thinking about it real hard, I would probably have gotten a list about half as long as the one Jim presented. Then I would look at my manual, and have found the rest of them.

Hmmm, further reflections reveal that the Strongarm equiped in the hands of a > level 13 archer wearing the Gauntlets of Extraordinary Specialisation will hands down beat the Tuigan bow. By +10 damage every round!

Someone has way too much time on his hands

I'll just chime back in with the fact that I prefer bows as a launcher for poisoned arrows (whether venom or by the assassin) and primarily in the disruption of spell-casting making speed factor of prime importance.

For some reason I've started using crossbows recently (it fits in more with the character). I'm missing arrows of dispelling, but beyond that I'm having fun (Bolts of Lightning make up for it).

Bolts of Lightning are all well and good, especially on the Firetooth crossbow (there's that "2 types of elemental damage per hit" cropping up again), but I must get up on my soapbox to proclaim the virtues of a HIGHLY underappreciated type of ammunition: Kuo-Toa Bolts. Who the hell cares if their enchantment is only +1, or whatever the heck it is? They STUN! They STUN for so long that once the bad guy is STUNNED, they stay STUNNED for the rest of their lives! Only a handful of enemies are immune to STUN! Did I mention that they STUN? Did I also mention that you can get an infinite amount of them, just by taking a jaunt through the Kuo-Toa Tunnels whenever you want, and that they don't disintegrate outside the Underdark, and that Kuo-Toans are complete wimps?

Six - I can see what you're saying about the Kua-Toa bolts, but I've got a question about them.

Do they stun?

Nice list, Jim! Makes me want to play an Archer-type character once... I have to admit I never even bothered with Archery before in the 8-ish times I've played through BG2 already. Never even used the Gesen Bow in all those times, not counting some exceptions.

Remember the last time you told me about the Grandmastery Patch, Jim? As we both know, once you get that GoES, Strongarm chews up the Tuigan Bow and spits it out.

Gesen Bow beats Strongarm when used with ammunition, but personally, I dislike the Gesen Bow. I do not know why, but I do. I just cannot phantom my Archer using such a weapon. Heh.

On a side note, why the heck are the ToB Short/Longbows INFERIOR to their SoA counterparts???? I mean... HELLO!

Lastly, to heck with Bolts of Lightning, to heck with the Kuo-Tua Bolts, what any diabolical Crossbowmen need are the Bolts of Biting. An Assassin using Poison Weapon + Bolts of Biting equals mucho hilarity and laughter. Giggle as you watch your opponents twitch and jerk in a macabre tap dance of poisoned spasms.

These bolts rock so much.

Cast Greater Malison and Slow then launch your poison. They do the Funky Chicken far more often and in slow motion. Highly entertaining, although somewhat evil.

Note to self. Import Thief from BG and make into Assassin. Dual to fighter with Grandmastery in crossbows.

Dundee - Bolts (or Arrows as I believe I commented on) of venom are all well and good if you get the shot in before the guy gets his stoneskin up. Lightning will hurt afterwards.

Poison of any sort is the absolute coolest way to bring em down.
