What gets TRULY sickening here is the possibility of Dual-Wielding the "custom" Short Sword of Backstabbing with the Quietus+4, resulting in x18 damage on Critical Backstabs. I'm planning my own improvements to the SSoB, but it seems to be a good thing that I steered clear of having it increase the Backstab multiplier.

{hehe} You read my mind, SixOfSpades.

Alson - I finally got a chance to test your theory about Poison Traps last night. I set a couple of traps for the final fight in the Slaver's ship. My two traps took out the fighter in the group, but it didn't say anything about him being poisoned. I also had Yoshimo and Minsc firing arrows. I was targeting the mage, but the AI may have switched to the fighter since he was advancing.

I took the mage Hiding in Shadows and Backstabbing. One hit..and down he went. I then drank a Potion of Invisibility and repeated the process with the cleric. One good Backstab = one dead cleric. Then it was "mop up" time on the two archers. Kelric (my assassin) used his Fear (or Horror) ability and they both failed. {HAHA} We had to chase those buggers through 3 different rooms before we finally killed them.

Why? From the sword's name, it only makes sense that it is a weapon perfectly suited for backtabs - thus possibly resulting in increasing the backstab multiplier.
Besides, the difference between x16 and x18 will be 0 in most cases, since the enemy will die.

Modders really shouldn't serve as the police in addition to all the hard work they already have. If people want to powerplay, let them. It's all about fun, right?

Weird... I tried it and i did worked.
Maybe you're doing it wrong? First, activate the Poison Weapon ability. Then, set the snares.

That's what I did. And I assume it worked. After all, two traps killed the fighter outright. To the best of my knowledge, nobody else attacked him.

But I read the Dialogue box and it didn't say anything about him being poisoned. However, if he had lived through the initial assault, perhaps it would have kept saying "Kelric did x number of points to fighter-guy".

Doesn't really matter. The end result was the same.

IIRC the Shadow Thieves don't have any for sale, although there are a couple laying on a table just ripe for the taking ; Gorch, on the other hand, has a ton of them over at Mae'var's guildhall.

Don't forget that there is a bug that causes your thief ability percentage to wrap around to zero again if you exceed 250%. Be careful.

Among other reasons, because I don't want to see Swashbucklers getting Backstab Triple Damage, that's why. I thought it more fitting to make the upgraded S.S.o.B. tack on additional damage before the Backstab multiplier instead. You also get to choose whether you want to add Poison or Level Drain to the sword.

I see all the reason in the world to police my own MODs. Sure, I could create a million items just as unbalanced as the Preserving Boots and Sanchuudoku, but then there'd be a million guys running around with the equivalent of tactical nuclear warheads in their packs, bragging about how cool they must be to have "earned" such gear....we already have a game like that, it's called Diablo. I can't even count the number of times I've seen a Level 4 Sorcerer running around in Godly Plate of the Whale.

Indeed, do *not* forget that. Happily, you can don/doff the Gloves of Pickpocketing to adjust your score, and you might be able to do the same thing with some Elven Chain Mail. Make your calculations beforehand, especially if you're using a Bard.
Note the {yeah, that's it} after the I could..uh, purchase. He isn't planning on buying them; more like acquiring them the same way the ST's get their goods.
